Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
OK.. I'm quiet peeved... Went from Iphone 4S to Razr after reading fantastic reviews.. well I'm in Indiana and if im not in a 4g area I get the no data connection... why won't it switch to 3g... here at work i would get full signal on my 4S now i get the grey bars and occasional 4g signal... Is this a network issue... software? hardware? I don't want to give up on the Razr but geez this sucks lol

I don't know the answer to your question (I'm sure someone will chime in shortly), but I am curious to hear your iOS to Android experience.

The Razr has had some issues if you go over on motorolas owners forums website you can research these issues. I had to make a choice myself between the Razr or the Rezound after purchasing the GN and with reading several pages on forums between the two the Rezound had less complaints. In my opinion my Rezound is the best smart phone I've owned to date. You may wish to research it and go play with one yourself.

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
I'm a HUGE Apple fan... Have the MacBook.. IPad2 and Always have had the iphones... well I sprung for the 4S when it came out... Little did I no that Siri is completely over rated... and the phone was darn near the same as the 4 except a little faster. I have always been curious about the android operating system because of its ease to root. (jail breaking the 4s still isn't mastered the dev teams are close) I live in the middle of no where and want the ability to be able to use my phone for my wifi since i'm grandfathered in with verizon for the unlimited data. Sooooooooooo I decided after extensive research to choose the Razr... I absolutely love the razr.. (except the low light photos) and had it rooted in 10 minutes after i got it. Battery life is better than my 4S... which was surprising. i just want the data connection issue fixed so it can be my "perfect" phone

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
Mimonb,
I too went from an iPhone to the Razr (by way of Galaxy Nexus first). Actually, like jphillips63, I was torn between the Razr and Rezound. I presently have the Razr (for a full 2 days now!!), and like it a lot. I went the Moto route because Costco included a kit that includes a docking station of some sort, an HDMI cable, and an external/portable battery charger. But, I'm not sure if I'll keep the Razr. Two things bug me: 1. no native screen shot capability and 2. the phone is just a bit too thin and bit too wide. I "fixed" #1 by buying No Root Screen It. But, that's an inelegant solution given the need to hook it up to a mac or pc whenever you restart the phone. Maybe the ICS upgrade will fix it permanently. #2 can presumably be fixed with a case -- I'm thinking the Otterbox commuter....
Regarding dream liner's question about iOS vs. Android, like all things in life, there are trade-offs. The iOS is slick, completely self-contained and, therefore, controlled, and ultimately an easy way to go. What the 4s didn't have that I really wanted was 4G/LTE. Mind you, the 4s on AT&T really runs like their fake 4G and it definitely clocks faster than either the 4s on VZW or my earlier 4 on AT&T. But, it's nothing like real 4G/LTE on VZW.
I like the Android environment a lot. But, some things still seem a bit immature to me. For example, one of the reasons I returned the Galaxy Nexus (besides having a goofy/faulty radio) was that ICS, I guess, is incompatible with some apps that I bought. Interestingly, most of those apps work with the Razr, but not all of them and not necessarily all that well. I needed to uninstall and retry mSecure (a password program) several times to get it to work on my Razr. But, even though my data is now in mSecure on my Razr, it's not categorized correctly like it is on all of my iOS devices. That program works flawlessly with my 2 iPhones, a couple of iPads, and even my 1st generation iPod touch!
Also, I can't believe none of the android super-smartphones have the ability to change volume through the headset like you can with recent models of the iOS products. Maybe it's a patent issue, but there must be some other way of allowing remote control, including volume, through the headphones. (I downloaded some app that supposedly allows you to control the volume and pause/start/skip/rewind with a one-button headphone, but it doesn't work.)
Back to the GN, I had a problem with the music players such that, depending on the sleep/wake status of the device, trying to pause/advance a song would cause the phone to change music apps and start playing random music on the new app. Again, sometimes, Android just feels like a work in progress rather then something fully ready for consumers. I feel like a beta tester sometimes.
But, all in all, I'm glad I switched my phone to the Razr (or perhaps Rezound??). I love the LTE speed, even if it drops to 3G sometimes.
Good luck on getting your data issues fixed. As someone else suggested, you should have VZW swap it for a new one and see if that helps. Maybe in the store, you can try accessing data with your Razr and then swap your sim into the store's demo to see how different the data connection is. If you can demonstrate the problem in such an obvious way, how can they not just give you a new phone?
Best,

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
First of all to the OP, I got my razr 3 days ago and it was doing the same thing, I went it and did the software update and that seemed to fix the problem.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just 3 days ago made this same switch, iPhone 4s to Razr. Both phones are great I will mention my biggest observations.
1) Camera: iPhone 4s blows the Razr away in this category, not even close. iPhone 4s camera took darn near pro-quality pics for me. The Razr has a blue-tint to the pics and the colors just seem off. This sucks but I can live with it as the camera is good enough to take Facebook pics and whatnot.
2) The thing that absolutely irritated me about the iPhone was that if you are trying to download something over 20MB in size, you HAVE to be on wifi. This is a PITA as if you are out and about and want to d/l a movie/tv show or app that is larger than 20MB you MUST find a wifi to do it.
3) MotoCast is AWESOME!!! I cant believe that others havent copied this yet and put it on their devices, talk about a great program.
4) Apps always seem to cost money in the App Store compared to the Market.
5) I really like the 4.3" screen vs the 3.5" size. The picture quality on both is tremendous but that extra real estate on the screen really is nice to have when watching movies/videos.
6) the overall performance of iOS seems to be smoother and less "complicated" than Android. What I mean is, let's say you have a first time smartphone user, I would be willing to guess that they could learn and navigate an iPhone easier than an Android device. iPhone's seems to pretty much be a "turn on and use" type device while Androids usually take some tinkering to getting it to work to ipotential.
7) Widgets.... never thought I would miss them, until I didnt have them on the iPhone. Now I've got them back.
8) Notification area/bar. This is new for iOS and its done "ok" but no notification icons other than the pesky red circle with a number in it by the app/inbox that has a new notification.
So after hitting on those few things, I would say each phone has it positives and negatives. Right now I am happy with the Droid Razr. NOW...... if the new iPhone 5 has 4G LTE, a bigger screen (minimum of 4") and re-evaluates the 20MB over wifi only requirement, I might go back to it. - 01-05-2012, 01:59 AM #13
Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
I also came from the IPhone 4s. I agree with all the above. Camera is super important to me. I can't stress enough how much better picture quality is on the Razr if you download Camera FX from the market. HUGE difference! I took a ton a pictures in every lighting situation with the stock app vs Camera FX and it crazy how much better every single picture was.

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
My search led me to Camera ZOOM FX, on sale $2.99 (usually $4.99). I, too, am unhappy with the pictures, especially with indoor lighting. And sometimes, the camera won't focus at all. I do think the video is really good, though. I have a beautiful camera, but it's big and one more thing to lug around, so I find pictures don't get taken at all.

I saw that one too but I just wanted to make sure I was getting the right one, just in case.

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
I went from Iphone 4 to Razr, and now to Gnex. Major reasons were the data network switchover taking forever, crappy camera, weak wifi, and buggy bluetooth. Razr just was too wonky for me after coming from and IOS device. Hopefully the Samsung works out.

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
So far so good. I'm having the opposite experience. I gave the Razr about a month. Tried resets, different settings, etc. The bluetooth in my car worked maybe 30% of the time. I could make a call but got no audio over the speakers. My Wifi connection has been great with the Gnex, and spotty with the Razr. And I personally prefer the camera. I'll agree on the build quality- but I have the Best Buy warranty so if I break it no biggie. I know everyone says radios better, I haven't had issues with mine. I have a good LTE signal where I am, and the Razr would be constantly switching over indoors at work, not so with the Gnex. I found the OS on the Razr to be pretty buggy once I added a few widgets and changed the launcher/theme. I have to say that after spending considerable time with the Razr that the Gnex is a better device. Scrolling through browser and forum apps is much smoother- overall it feels more like the future than the past. Maybe I'll be singing a different tune a month from now, and be returning the Gnex, but my initial impression scores it higher.

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
I agree with PP about the comparison with Iphone 4S and Razr... I did disable all smart actions and it has seem to help a bit but not entirely. Also i downloaded the camera FX and have its a lot better than orginal camera. Hope verizon fixes these stupid outages so I can use my SMART phone like its made for lol

Re: Went from Iphone 4s to Razr...
Did they own both, or basing opinions on what they read or heard? After spending time with the RAZR and going the the Gnex, the difference is there, I can't say the Razr is a better device for MY real world use. I gotta tell ya- I really wanted the Razr to be better so I could prove myself right the first time and return the Gnex back for the Razr. I really did like it.

OK this is a question for the OP or anyone else that went from their iPhone to the razr/Droid here after ios5 came out. Are any of you having issues receiving texts from your iPhone using friends or have that complained about how hard it is to send u a text after you switched?
