Ice Cream Sandwich Question
Hello.
So I'm getting this phone today (AWESOME!) but wanted to ask something.
I know it's getting Ice Cream Sandwich, but will it look like ICS? Or will Motorola get it's grubby hands on it and fuse it with MotoBlur? Just wondering. I'm guessing that will happen? Since only stock ICS goes to google phones?
Kinda how official Gingerbread on Thunderbolt, is really just HTC Sense again, nothing looks different? Will it be like that with Motorola?
Thanks. - 02-02-2012, 12:29 PM #2
Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Question
If you are getting this phone, then you should be willing to accept that ICS on this phone will have the hands from Motorola in it somehow (in whatever you want to call it whether it is Motoblur, or something else)

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Question
Yeah I know, just wanted to know how ICS would be on the phone.
It seems like Motoblur will be slapped on it. That's fine. I just like how the menu's and all look on ICS, any idea if we will get a ICS theme or something? - 02-02-2012, 01:43 PM #4Samsung Galaxy S4

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Question
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.
or said a little differently
if it looks like a Motorola phone, and it acts like a Motorola phone, then why in the world would ICS not be Motorola skinned?
That is what it is going to look like.
Theme: Motorola themed.
Look: Motorola look
I am not sure how many more ways we can describe it for you so that you will be able to accept it.
Oh, and before you ask. Second quarter - 02-02-2012, 03:40 PM

I still wonder how to navigate without the Back button? We have Gingerbread on our Galaxy Tab where it vanished, and I just don't get it. What do you do instead?

Think of motoblurs ICS when compared to g-nexus ICS as French vanilla bean ice cream..... its still vanilla ice cream (ICS ) but with ground up beans in it (motoblur)....
I don't expect Motorola's ICS to be a severe change... ICS is just android... like cake... motoblur is a UI, like frosting. All ICS elements should be there plus added features (motoblur). .. I wouldn't worry.

First don't expect a huge difference in looks. Blur has always been blan . They don't do fancy menus or what not. That's one reason its easy for motorola to upgrade there's little bloat.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Question
Yeah, I have to wonder why follks dis Blur, since it barely exists. The VZW cr@p is more irritating than anything Moto puts on there.

I actually prefer this version of Blur to Sense. I love that I can have Phone, Text, and Browser locked to the bottom at all times for one.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Question
Yeah, both the phone app and the text app are way better than on the orig. Droid, and so far I've just lived with them, tho' there are parts of each that are kind of dumb. But I really am trying to live with a handful less apps this time to keep this Porsche from becoming a Dodge Pickup.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Question
Moto's Gallery app is the killer for me. That thing is terrible. Thankfully, there are plenty of other options. Moto BlurNotBlur has actually grown on me in general though. HTC's Sense feels so heavy after using the Razr for a while.

Close to stock does not equal stock. They still add in Moto's warped idea of what Android should like and how it should perform.
I think whatever Moto does to ICS will be more of the same second rate design they have done since they created the term Blur.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich Question
Ok....
Stock Android isnt the end all be all. I had a Droid 1 and G Nex. Droid 1? I added so much 3rd party stuff to it, ran so many ROMs, it wasnt stock anymore. ICS is the best stock Android on phones to date. Point of my post was....custom UI's isnt as bad as some ppl make it. And some custom UI's might be more appealing than others for whatever reason.
Like I said before.... look at stock Gingerbread, use stock Gingerbread on a stock Android phone like the Nexus S...then use a phone like the Rezound or RAZR...and please tell me where they made Gingerbread worse than stock.. Cuz in the end its all about preference. And if you think Blur is a warped idea...you must never have used Sense UI. Sense UI could be an entire free standing OS if HTC keeps going they way they are.
And since you feel that way about Moto and Blur...arent you glad you chose the G Nex? After using the RAZR, G Nex and Rezound.... Blur cant be all that bad since I no longer have my G Nex. Still have my Rezound too. You know...that lil thing called wants n needs came into play. By the way...Blur cant be totally 2nd rate since ICS has resizable widgets.Last edited by jroc; 02-04-2012 at 04:14 AM.

I took my Razr to VZW and did a side-by-side comparison with the GN. Except for some blue highlights and optional widgets I still can't tell what Blur is.
One thing I did notice is that Google "borrowed " ideas from Sense and incorporate them into ICS. Funny how that works, huh?

What ideas did Google borrow in your opinion?
@jroc, I have never said ICS is the end all. I simply do not like what Blur or whatever it's being called now does. I don't care for sense either
I have owned phones with each of those OS's, not simply tried them out in a store for a few minutes.
