Yesterday my wife called customer support because her dinc 2 was giving her some problems that I couldn't fix. Long story short, they asked her the normal questions. Then they asked her how many alarms she had set, my wife answered 5. The girl responded "yes I see that". The girl told her that having to many alarms could have made her phone crash. I highly doubt that. What got me was when she said "yes I see that ". Was that a slip of the tongue? My first thought was that they are watching what we are doing on these phones. Now I could just be paranoid and there might be more to her statement than what I know. From what my wife told me though leads me to believe that they see everything that we do on our devices. Has anyone else come accross a situation like this? If so something needs to be done.

If she enabled "backup assistant media", then they would know since it will backup media and other phone bloatware settings.

I never use Verizon bloatware. I download better apps.

Have you noticed if backup assistant has a privacy disclaimer? If this is true then I would think that it would have to.

Lets say they can look at what you are doing on your phone. What is the ratio of Verizon customers to Verizon employees? They can't possibly watch every phone all the time.

It would make more sense if they could only bring up limited information from your phone (settings, apps installed, what not) when there is an issue to figure out what is wrong with your phone. If they want to "go live" on your phone and see what you are doing on it, (text messages, web browser...) there are serious privacy issues, and those require a subpoena by a federal judge and aren't as easy to get as you are led to believe by TV.

I understand that they can't possibly watch every phone, but isn't even one to much? I don't even know for sure that they were looking at anything they aren't supposed to.

As far as things being as easy as on TV, the patriot act makes it easier than what you see on TV.

According to the NDAA (National Defense Authorization) Act they don't need a subpoena by a federal judge.

Verizon is not watching evryones contents of phones and being like a George Orwell "1984" Big Brother in a communistic socialist world.... Lets use Google as another example.... Google saves my contacts and tasks and calendar items. If I report an issue to Google that involves these apps on my phone, and they say "oh, i see that", does that mean Google is watching me too??? No! I chose MYSELF to store contacts on Google. IF I ever had issues on my phone, Google would have access to that personal data so that my fixed phone or new phone can be synced.... I doesnt mean Google is watching my every move.

The same with Verizon and Backup Assistant. You chose to use the feature. You should know what is does and that they have access to that data. The same with ATT Media Backup Pro and Smartlimits. Tmobile and Sprint too with their backup data features. I know, professionally, for fact that the data on these features can be looked up on a customers account when they have phone issues or BA issues. BUT, the system does not allow us to edit the information, even with your permission, as that is a breach in the privacy terms. We can only resync it.

What my point is... use backup assistant... or, remove your data from backup assisant and move on with life. They arent watching you get naked. They arent recording your calls, or word-by-word texts, or web site history, or pics from MMS.... Just calm down. Breathe. Take a look at the Terms of Service and read 2 pages of the 5pt font, including the BA section. Also google search FCC federal privacy laws.

If you truly feel Verizon is infringing on your rights, then get a lawyer and file a lawsuit.

As it relates to an active investigation of a threat to national security, no. But for ANY OTHER reason, um, they do.

oh brother... what fools these mortals be..... :'(

MrGr8... understanding the point of the post.. = EPIC FAIL.... WHAT I SAID was .....

MrGr8, the point is, they will have access to my contact data cause I choose it to be that I way. Im not ignorant. I know Google tracks data like EVEYRONE ELSE. ITS NOT NEW NEWS! I got Android 3 years ago. I use Google Contacts. I choose that. Thats ALLLLL on me... not Google. so like... Yeah.. whatever.. out of millions upon millions if Android users... Andy Rubin is in his office at GooglePlex and is looking at my personal pictures and videos on a daily basis... oh... my... gawd.... a tad schizophrenic, are we?!?!?!

Google, Apple, RIM, OEMs, Wireless carriers all are transmitting location based and ad usage data from your SMARTPHONE to their servers. This is known... Jesus Christ! READ THE FINE PRINT!!!!!!!!!!!! You got a smartphone. You use apps. You have admob and other ad data on your phone. THe transmission of this data to them is ALL on you. You got this phone. You got this OS... You got the apps with ads. You CHOOSE to get that phone. If you dont like Google, Apple, RIM, OEMs, Wireless carriers transmitting your data ..............then get a non-smartphone........... or get some schizophrenic meds from your psychiatrist......... or..... DEAL WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!

but dont twist my words around....

Your words were "They arent recording your calls, or word-by-word texts, or web site history, or pics from MMS.... Just calm down."

I'm just simply and very calmly saying that's BS. The fact of the matter is that it's coming out more and more that these practices are being used. In the article it even states that: "Eventually, it [Google] was forced to reveal that the information it had collected could include the full text of emails, sites visited and other data".

Where in the TOS do you see the authority of Google to have access to the full text of my emails and the very gray "other data"?

I know I'm choosing to use Google. That doesn't change the fact that this isn't happening and doesn't not mean that this shouldn't be debated and discussed.

And we certainly don't need to cyber bully people by accusing them off being schizophrenic just because we disagree with them.

Where is your proof that "they" are recording texts/calls/web history/pictures/videos/etc on your smartphone WITHOUT your permission"?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Not heresay... no rumors... no personal belief... no forum talk.... no location based data (given/known)... no ad data (given/known)... I WANT PROOF OF MY INBOUND/OUTBOUND CALLS and WORD-BY-WORD TEXTS and MOBILE WEBSITE HISTORY are being recorded by and/or said info is sold to other people/companies by wireless carriers/OEMs/Companies/3rd parties/etc!

if you still believe your rights are being violated (ie: wireless carriers/OEMs/Companies/3rd parties/etc recording your calls/text messages/mobile website history/pictures/videos/etc, selling your call/text messages/website/pictures/videos/etc... please submit your complaint to the FCC in the address in the link below.... or contact or lawyer to file a legal claim based on your proof (which may or may not be post here...)
