Update rolling out

Just picked up my phone and noticed it was downloading something. Apparently vzw is finally pushing out that bug fix update.

Yup. Got mine. Failed.

Was rooted, all apps unfrozen.

Unrooted using voodo.

Update failed again.

Was SO LOOKING FORWARD to no more loud beep on hang up when on bluetooth.

Sucks.

Dang that does suck. I was stock. Haven't seen the real need to root the phone yet. Using Go launcher to hide all the bloat, and always near a charger for when I need to use it for more extensive tasks so I don't have to worry ab the battery life as much. Update installed w/o a problem for me.

Yes, in order to be able to update my phone I needed to do a full reset.

Nice instructions were found here:

Once I followed the above instructions, I was able to update my phone with no problems.

I used Droid Razr Utility 1.40, created by mattlgroff, to put me back to 6.12.173.

I also used it to reinstall Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper App - but it did not work to restore my root.

That being said, option 2, Droid Root for 2.3.6 (motofail) worked just like a charm.

Now, I sleep....tomorrow, I reinstall my apps, and set up my desktop.

you do not need to be unrooted to install 181 build...

My RAZR is proof of that

just make sure your on rooted stock 173 build, all bloatware installed and [HL]ABSOLUTELY NO BLOATWARE DELETED, no Bloatware frozen[/HL], no system file mod'd with ninjamorph/metamorph/setcpu/rom manager/font changers/adfree/etcetcetcetc...

open rootkeeper, make SU backup, exit rootkeeper, download/install 181 build, let the phone do its thing, phone reboots, successful install of 181 build, you'll be unrooted obviously, open rootkeeper, click RESTORE ROOT, bam... ... bam... and wait for... BAM! rooted 181 build...

If your install failed, then you mod'd something during your rooted time on 173 build... you can agree with me or disagree with me..... but thats ALL I have to say about that...

Downloading here in Michigan. Update completed fine on my rooted Razr. As mentioned previously, I unfroze all frozen apps prior to the update.

My update came through this morning also. I'm stock so I didn't have to jump through any hoops. Knew it wasn't going to be ICS from the forum here. At least I have a timetable for my Acer tablet, "supposedly before the end of this month."

I (for once in my life) learned my lesson after it taking me 4+ hrs to get the last update. With Ti Pro I froze a bunch of bloatware, but did not remove it (which I did before).

My rooted phone downloaded and installed on the first try. Then I used Voodoo to restore root and things seem to be going OK. I'm sure I'll have to go "re-freeze" all the bloat the update "restored", but I don't think the updates check whether your device is rooted. Only that their catalog of bloatware is present.

Killed RAZR Dock, an app that allowed the "Dock" screen to show up on cheaper non-motorola docks. (or with no dock at all) Apparently they want to keep people buying their overpriced docks. Developer notified, hopefully he will have an update/work-around

Just to mention that Foxfi still works fine after the update. Always a concern that things like that could be screwed up.

When I woke up this morning, the update was waiting on me. I chose to install the update and it went through its paces but said it failed to install. I am still on the older .167 version. Now when I go to try and run the update it tells me that I am up to date. My phone is stock with no root access. I guess I will try again later.

I "agree" with you....sort of. I've been around a while, and I know better than to remove a Bloatware Application, and I know what I was running. The ONLY thing that I did to my system was to delete some bloatware using the regular old Applications interface on the phone. I did not use Titanium to remove or freeze the bloatware.

I remember specifically being allowed to remove the NFL game as though it were not bloatware. The system would not allow me to delete any other bloatware in that manner.

Now, of course, it would appear that my rooted status may have allowed me to delete that application like any other application.

So, the lesson to be learned is that if it is bloatware, leave it alone! (An important lesson for me, as when I did the above to my phone, and in spite of my telling the phone to leave my SD card alone, all of my Titanium backups and an alternative back up application that I had did NOT save my backup.

Naturally, I could have emailed the backup to myself, or copied the SD card to my computer before proceeding....but, at 1:00am, who would have thought?

Lesson learned, and lesson shared.

Battery life is already better after the update. Even though I've been off the charger for almost 30 minutes (with Foxfi running a hotspot, I'm still on 100 for battery. Normally, I would be down to 90 about 15 minutes ago. Well, just went to 90 as I type this. Not bad at all.

A factory reset does NOT restore the bloat. See my post above about flashing back to 173.

Make sure you have a back up of your applications and stuff. Donct count on it being safe on the SD card. At the least, copy the files from Titanium onto your computer. It's easy and fast, and you're connected to your computer by USB anyway.

Yes it does but that won't fix the problems within the system files so you can update.

And now today, battery life is even worse than it was before the update. Despite charging all night, it went down to 70 in less than 30 minutes. And only 5 of those were with Foxfi. Rhapsody was still running from the night before but not actually streaming. The only actual use was Facebook and even using FB has never run it down that quickly in the past. And I was using FB quite a bit when I thought that battery life had dramatically improved.

Puzzling.

Still having the low memory rotational issues..

Was playing temple run and could not get the "guy' to move left or right.. pictures would not rotate to landscape.

Battery life is the same

have noticed with battery gauge on tool bar that it shows single #'s 34 44 48 47 instead of 35 40 45 50 55...
