I want to add a ringtone to text notifications, but when I go to messing settings and tap select ringtone, none of my custom ringtones show up on the list. Any ideas on how the add them?

I use Handscent, which allows you to apply different ringtones to every contact. It also allows you to select system or music tones

If your rooted: use a file browser to place the ringtones in /system/media/audio/notifications

If not rooted, a different text messaging app like Go SMS, Handecent, or Chomp will allow you to chose any file you want.
