Droid RAZR - Duplicate contacts

For some reason, after merging identical contacts they seem to separate or become unlinked after a while. In the end when I scroll through my contacts I see "bill smith" (Google contact, MSN contact..) Previously linked, unlinked. Not sure what could be causing this but it very annoying and a pain in the rear having to do this all over again.

Could it be because you are syncing two email accounts, Google and MSN, that have the same contacts?

Yes, some contacts are repetitive in gmail or MSN. I've linked these contacts within the contact edit section so that the duplicate contact only shows once, but for some reason it becomes unlinked. In addition the contact appears one or two more times with no number or associated contact information.
