car dock or desktop dock question
Anybody using the motorola car dock and desktop charger? Motorola makes great accessories but they are expensive so just wondering if they are worth it? How does the car dock work with google turn by turn?
I am wondering if i should get these accessories or wait for seido or other 3rd party cheaper options? - 07-22-2010, 10:32 AM #2
I have the car dock and i love it. It has a place to plug in the charger and comes with a 3.5mm audio cable if your car has an aux input. Google nav directions play right over my cars speakers. This has replaced both my tomato and my ipod... the x does it all!

I just ordered the Car Dock from VZW.com yesterday for $39.99, then I go to the Verizon Wireless corporate store and see it sitting on the shelf for $29.99. The last thing I expected was for the brick-and-mortar store to be selling it for LESS.

Bought the car dock. Love it. Works really well and seems to be built quite solid.

The charger is separate, but you can get legit chargers for less elsewhere. Its pretty cool on the docks (i have both) i could probably do without the desk dock tho it would be good if you were using it is an alarm clock. Imo the text and map zooms are generally too tiny in the car mode and hard to navigate and enter stuff. On the bright side it all works with bluetooth enabled stereos even if you do music and nav at the same time. I will def be using it a good bit, but its far from perfect.

I'm torn, will likely get one or the other. I'll prob end up with the car mount bc my wife has multimedia dock for her droid. Does verizon sell hdmi cable individually or only in the bundle?

One thing to note about the black car **** and your black phone is that once you start firing up nav and everything else the phone likes to get really hot where it will only let you float the charge or will actually just run off battery and take no charge

The Multimedia Dock is overpriced, but I bought one, and I like it. It works pretty well, but insertion and removal are more difficult than they should be. I like having the clock and alarm function, and the low intensity mode allows my wife to sleep. I don't quite get the appearance of the low light mode - it has a cloudy glow across the entire screen that looks almost foggy, but maybe that is unavoidable.
One oddity I have found is that the magnet in the dock can impede screen rotation at distances up to 2-3 feet away, with certain relative positions between them. One of those positions just happens to be mine when I am trying to browse or read a Kindle book in bed (yes, the DX is perpendicular to the ground). To get it to change its screen orientation between portrait and landscape, I usually have to rotate around the axis of the DX momentarily to make its body perpendicular to the dock. - 07-23-2010, 09:13 AM

I plan on getting both. I have a landscape dock for my Storm and love it. Makes a great bedside alarm clock.

Multimedia Dock (with HDMI) is awesome. Functions as my clock & alarm, plus you can use it to watch videos and still have full functionality while docked. Highly recommended.

if you guys like the "Dock" look on the DX but dont want to pay the $$ for the dock, download Dock Simulator and make ur own home dock outta ur kids legos-
Dock Simulator is free and simulates both Home and Car Docks- - 07-23-2010, 12:27 PM #21
So that's why when I got home today my battery was at 50% even though it said it was charging while in the car dock. I ddi notice for the first time that the phone was really hot when I took it out.
I wonder if the vent mount that I ordered will cool it off and keep it charging. - 07-23-2010, 12:47 PM #22
There is a thread about the charging issue. It has to do with USB charging vs AC Charging.
USB charge is slow and many of the car charger use USB mode. You have to find a charger that charges in AC mode.
Do a search in the forums and you will find lots of info. I will see if I can find it later. - 07-23-2010, 01:14 PM #23
I Love the car charger. I also think it is well really well built. I dont think I have seen a car/phone charger that was built better. I have noticed that if you keep it on the car dock screen it does tend to not charge as well either. Dont know why that is.

I am using the car dock and have had the problem with it discharging faster than I can charge. I have tried a few chargers which included the annoying blue Motorola one and they all will not charge the DX if it gets hot. I had a rather low tech idea yesterday where I moved my dock closer to my vent and then diverted some of the air toward my DX and it charged much faster. It actually fully charged it where it had been draining all day. I live in the south so it's really hot right now. I use mine for GPS, listening to streaming radio and podcasts through bluetooth so I put a pretty heavy load on my battery.

I put my car dock in between two very cold A/C vents...and it works fine, does not get hot. Also, charges fine. I bought all my accessories made for the X from the store with the 25% discount...love all of them.
