I had this problem. My issue what when someone sent me an MMS with text attached like "look at this pic" with the pic attached it would flash the screen. But if they sent just the pic or vid with no text it would work. Maybe try that.

I have tried it both ways. The message sent with and without text, I get the same result. Could it be a setting or is there an app or software that is not present that I can download? This is the only issue I have found. CM9 has hands down een the best and most stable ROM I have used. I just have to get this issue worked out and I will be golden!!! Thanks for the help.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-2

I posted it on the G+ page, but thought I'd share here as well. I'm getting horrible battery life with Beta 3. I'm on the latest rom and can literally watch the battery percentage drop. I unplugged my phone a little over an hour ago from charging all night, haven't used it, and battery life is at 93% now. No way I can live with this. My phone needs to stay on a charger all the time. I was browsing the internet for about 30 minutes yesterday and took my phone from 100% to 23% while using WiFi.

Are there any kernels for this to get some better battery life?

I concur about the battery life. I didn't spend much time on beta2 but coming from gingerbread my battery life on beta3 has been lousy at best.

Hmmm, my battery's same as it ever was, no better no worse, since flashing CM9beta3.

There are reasons, way too numerous to mention here, why battery life MAY fluctuate between ROM updates for rooted users or else between firmware changes for those running Stock..........w/ beta3 we've also seen a # of user posts claiming IMPROVED battery life; still, we always seem to find our way back to this basic question:

Q= How may we improve our battery life on CM9?

A number of users swear by it: 'Better Battery Stats,' an app available from the Store.

.......+ of course, there's this: the Battery Optimization Guide from the Epic CM blog = Cyanogenmod Epic 4G: Battery Optimization Guide

Hopefully, some of this information will play well + serve to IMPROVE your specific device battery's future performance............let us know.

Are there any workarounds for emoticons? I notice the keyboard button for emoticons does nothing now.

I've noticed a couple times now when my battery has been around 50% and I choose to restart the phone (just something I like to do once in a while to refresh it) it shows a battery % much less than it was before I restarted it. For example, I went fro 52% today, to 17% when it restarted. Thursday of last week I had a similar issue. I pulled the battery for 5 mins on Thursday and let it sit for a few mins and when I put it back in and went back up again to 31%. Weird.

That can happen with any Android device on any rom. It's something that happens much more often when using a "reboot" mod. Try turning the phone off the regular way then booting it back up and see if it still happens. Plugging into a charging and rebooting will usually correct it as a quick fix when it happens, also.

You will also notice when this happens if you leave the phone in standby the % may actually rise as it attempts to correct itself, or may drain slower till it gets more around the proper % reading.

This might be an old question, but i never updated yet to fc09 . I'm confused what to do after booting the temporary ROM. Do i go to settings and search latest update? Or it update by itself when booting the temporary thing. Also I'm confused by what cm9 refers to update your profile. Does profile mean the fc09 modem? Or is that some other thing i can benefit of doing. Thanks!

You're asking several questions.
.....[1] FC09 is the latest Official Samsung firmware for the Epic4G device; FC09 also refers to the modem 'FC09 modem'
.....[2]. If you want to update to FC09 firmware you;
A. ODIN the FC09 tar file (full FC09 ROM, stock)
B. ODIN the EL30 tar file, + the OTA FC09 immediately updates your device for you (fr here you'd ODIN the CWM5.0.2.7, remove battery after complete, THEN 3-finger boot to CWM, flash CM9.)
.....[3]. Q: what do you mean temp ROM?
If you're rooted, running CM9, you may use the 'temp-kexec-BML' to flash a modem delta ZIP from your sd card, so for instance: you may update from modem EL30 to modem FC09, then once done you reboot right back to CM9 but w/ a new modem (depending on geography, this may improve your data speed.)
IE, If your current modem is EL30, have a modem delta EL30-to-FC09 zip file in your sd card ready before booting to CWM where you'd flash the temp BML kexec......you're in a temp BML recovery now; locate your modem delta zip file + flash, once complete you're booted back to CM9.)
.....[4]. Q: Profile? You must be referring to the temp-kexec-FC09...........this is very different: it boots to a temp stock FC09 ROM, allowing you to Update Profile + Update PRL; fr power off, this utility reboots you right back to CM9.

Of benefit to all others --not you adlebo-- that are interested:
It's best to begin from the fundamentals: How to Root your Epic 4G using ODIN..........or you may end up in a soft-brick, or else a perma-brick, careful, there guys! Do a little reading --Paul627g has several threads devoted exclusively to this subject-- and of course, we can guide you further as need be ;)

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-2

I was reading that with flashing the delta zip there is a chance of data corruption. If that's the case i think i will stay with the el30 modem because I'm pretty happy with it. Unless you think that it will work without issues, because i don't want to use odin to fix problems and lose all my apps and data.
Secondly, can i use the other temp ROM (which temporarily boots into fc09) even though I'm not using the fc09 modem? I would like to use that to update the prl.
Thirdly, I'm still not sure what is meant by "profile"? & where do i go to update the profile once i boot? Thanx!

The FC09 modem delta zip is fine.......to be safe you can also ODIN the FC09 modem-only TARmd5, will not affect your data, you'll reboot back to CM9.

The Temp-kexec-FC09 does NOT require you to be on FC09 nor to have FC09 modem, it merely boots you to a temporary version of Stock FC09 where you may run your updates...........from re-boot you return to CM9 but w/ your new updated PRL + Profile.

Nicely done on the ROM; it has brought my Epic 4G back to life as a wifi device...used plenty around the house now.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-2

Im on cm9 latest beta and i have a problem. When I connect to the PC and select USB storage the phone makes contact but then shuts off. Im talking anout the phone just shuts off. Then I reboot the phone and retry to make contact with the PC USB storage and it goes the second time around. i had a similar issue on beta, where my windows machines wouldnt recognize the device, after i cleared up some ram and clutter on my phone, it started working again. My problem was probably user caused, try connecting it to a diffrent computer and see what happens?

I updated beta2 to beta3 , without losing any apps or any information at all! Cleared the cache and the dalvik, very smooth transition!!

Anyone?

Anyone currently running beta3 + wishing to explore the inherent differences between CM9 + AOKP --if only to appease your insatiable curiosity!-- it'd be best for you to download AOKPbuild37 (newest release, DL fr aokp blogspot) to your sd card; next, wipe cache/dalvik cache ONLY, then from CWM5.5.0.4 flash AOKP + GApps-429, boot to system ...............+ see your CM9 settings migrate right over, yes, easy as that! You will want to make a complete nandroid backup of your current CM setup first, of course............then explore + enjoy!

Epic CM Team member Alias8818, dev/maintainer of all things AOKP for the og Epic 4G, enjoys a back-n-forth relation between both teams, allowing a graceful span across the bridge that exists between these two very different ROMs..........it also helps that both are driven by ICS/Android4.0.4/+ somehow share the basic CyanogenMod geneology! :)

FYI= there are several CM sites that post updates, if only to advance dialog around current CM development (+ cool stuff due to arrive in the near future: apollo music, yea?).......for those that may be interested, here are a couple of links to the expanded CyanogenMod World:
