[ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.1.0 -Stable

It seems like a lot of android devices are getting their own taste of CM9 compared to previous iterations of CyanogenMod. I like this. :)

I enjoy seeing developers port cyanogen (or aokp, gummy, et al). + work w/ devices that have been all but neglected by either the carrier, the manufacturer or both.............CM9 is very streamlined as an interface, very visual + intuitive + been a breath of fresh air on this device to say the least...........+ still beta for us og Epic owners, so lots remains on the horizon............as the movement towards new devices surges, it'll be curious to see just how much further we get w/ CM9: RC? Official?..................it's all good, lots of options going forward!

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-2

Just treated myself to a new phone for my birthday---my Epic4G with CM9beta2! I was having com.google.process.gapps FCs on ACS ICS 5.1 so figured I needed the new file system. All works great so far including GPS and bluetooth in car. Thanks to all who worked on this and who post about it here.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-2

Its just amazing to me how well my Epic 4G works with CM9. It really is like having a brand new phone! I'm just glad I was able to grow a pair and dive into rooting for the very first time late last year which has 100% prolonged the life of this phone for me!! I thought rooting would be too much of a hassle for me but its just opened up possibilities, options and ideas with the phone I have. I love the customization of Android, unlike another company I dare not mention that enslaves the user!

Yeah and once you root, it gets to be kind of fun to tinker with your phone and to push it to its limits to be as fast as it can be!

So now that you mention this, what's a good OC kernel for this version of CM? :D

It's the only thing I'm missing from the GB ROM I was using before CM9.

If you're referring to over clocking and messing with the voltage (power management) options, I'm not quite there yet, lolol!! But yeah, its nice to know that those options are there for me if I so chose to go there. For the moment, I running my phone as lite and polished as can be. Pretty crazy how all that bloatware ruins the phones true performace.....yeah, I'm talkin to you "all stock" people out there!!!....lol!

Shadow kernel hasn't been updated in a while so the only option is Nyan Colonel :). It's pretty much like Shadow Kernel except the developer added in a couple of his own tweaks.

Yeah this ROM truly does bring out the real performance it should be running at. Also the fact that ICS has hardware acceleration makes my Epic smooth as butter!

Since they say install without and with the NEW Gapps upgrade....does that mean that when I install Beta3 without gapps upgrade, I don't need to install ANY gapps afterwards or do I STILL need to install the previous gapps???

There seems to be two camps around this: the lucky ones that profess never to wipe nor install GApps w/ their updates + those that always wipe and/or flash GApps w/ every update............from these two groups we see various results: some users are blessed in that either way they NEVER experience any issues whatsoever; yet other users see a score of issues from their results, that are hard to pin on any one thing (from checking the md5 sum on the DL to assure a perfect DL, to re-flashing a bad flash that gives you nothing but random reboots + fc's)...........in the the case of Beta3-Pre3, the concept is for us to flash GApps-422 + then to report whether we experience any erratic behaviour that can immediately be attributed to this, IOW, a 'TEST' for the team.............you can choose NOT to install GApps after + report your results........or else, as in my case, I DL'd the new GApps + can verify that all is well.............future users benefit from our results either way ;)

Just a quick note on Beta3_pre3:
Hotspot = chk
BT = chk
Sms = chk
Video = chk
EM = chk
Flashed CM9b3-pre3, then GApps-422, wiped cache + dalvik ONLY.................as expected, eveything is 'chk', including data + settings from my recent setup................photos are viewable from gallery --in order-- so no having to go looking for missing pix..........the new kernel by wtogami is very fluid + snappy quick, this is the most immediately noticeable difference: speed...........oh, *battery life* am currently seeing an average of 10%/hour use w/ heavy testing..............will do some prosumer photos ;) .......shoot a test 2 min video, post it on youtube, then view on pc for quality discernment..........will run this stock til done testing (then on to testing TWRP touch recovery).........but so far beta3-pre3's running swimmingly well...........as usual, if you're system is currently awesome no need to update til Beta3 officially launches........which should be very soon!

*edit: New version of gapps = GApps-ICS-20120429-signed.zip is out, works gr8 w/ Beta3-pre3!

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-2

Hey all, trying to install CM9-Beta2 and having a small issue. I am coming from CM7 RC1 and I have wiped Dalvik, Cache and Factory Reset but after installing CM9 and rebooting, all the phone does is "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" and that's it. If you tap OK, the message just re-appears.

If you hold the power button and tap OK fast enough you can get to the shut-down menu and shut the phone down properly.

I have gone back into CWM and re-wiped and re-flashed everything, both with and without gapps and the same thing just keeps happening each time.

Any help or ideas here would be greatly appreciated! Heading back to CM7-RC1 for now ...

Shadowkernel is nice but I would suggest you to stick with the kernel the betas come with. It works just as perfect.

Beta3 Pre3 and the next full release Beta3 have conservative overclocking to 1.2ghz.

Make sure you're on CWM5.5.0.4..........+ do NOT boot restore from ROM Manager, it has been known to bump users back to CWM5.0.2.7 (TW/CWM)................if you're NOT showing CWM5.5.0.4, then you will have to go back to ODIN + re-establish your baseline + build back up to CM/MTD + CM9beta2..............ODIN's really easy to do, but, first things first: try + see if your proper CWM recovery is showing up, there may be a way to trick CWM5.0.2.7 to allow CWM/MTD on board! :)

*edit: also, in case you haven't done so already, check md5sum on your download against the one posted on Epic CM Install Guide, if only to rule out a bad DL.

Does the Sprint voicemail app work with this ROM? Or is that something you lose once you root the phone and flash it with custom ROM?

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-2

...............CM9_beta3-pre7...........closer to resolution + a request for additional testing.

Having spent some sublime moments running CM9_beta3-pre3 during the past week or so, have to admit it has been my favorite of all the various iterations of CyanogenMod to date..............I know, it's often peculiar + personal why one reacts to certain builds more than others, yet Beta3-Pre3 has proven w/out question to have arrived at a quite good place in the overall CM9 experience...........as lots of the recent past few months' details have been more than ironed out + pushed closer to resolution.
+
Was pleasantly surprised to see a call from the Epic CM Team inviting us power-users to join in additional testing, as certain elements have been adjusted + fixes implemented + the Team just needs to be sure that all is well before making a final release in the short term.........SO, if you do decide to test Pre-7, please take a good look at the installation notes posted on the Install Guide as there is a minimal requirement to make a change in your settings, prior to flashing.........simply to ensure a more pleasant user experience going forward. = ]

Cyanogenmod Epic 4G

*edit: 05/04-- wtogami has posted a new test kernel on the Epic CM blog, especially helpful to those interested in cpufreq improvement........made specially for CM9_beta3-pre7.........really appreciating these new test builds + the kernel is a gr8 addition. =]

.........just in time for the Universal Themers Consortium + Annual Convergence........[J.K.!].......very pleased to see that CM9 Theme chooser has been merged!..................what this means is that starting now we have the option to choose/change themes from within CM9 settings (provided there are different themes installed on your system to choose from!)..........at the moment, there is actually only 1 currently available in the drawer, plus about 9 elsewhere; + now that the Theme chooser has been merged, devs shall be creating + releasing some awesome themes tailored specially for the Epic Cm9 in the very near future, so stay tuned!............for now, anyone wishing to explore the Theme chooser may do so by downloading + installing CM9-beta3-pre9.....the link is HERE:

Cyanogenmod Epic 4G: Goals for CM9 beta3 for Epic 4G

.......added note: Lockscreen Shortcuts is included in this build as well........WOOT!

*edit: Play Store hosts 2 themes + XDA android general has a thread hosting several more of these bad boyz :)
