Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
I am having issues with my corporate email. Once I get everything setup my email runs nonstop using 40%-50% of my cpu making the epic hotter than crap and draining my battery very quickly. I have tried changing the sync rate and even turning sync off. Still the same thing. The email app is running nonstop. Once I delete the account everything goes back to normal. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
I've been rooted and on CM9 for moths now couldn't be happier.
For my work exchange mail I use the stock email app.
For my other 6 pop accounts, yes 6, other less important business and personal accts I use K-9 and jjst check mail manually when interested. I don't look at it every 5 minutes so why sync that often.
Last but not least Ihave gmail for my seldom used gmail acct.
Go ahead and root upgrade to CM-9. Its scary the first time but it's not that hard and there are plenty of people here that are always willing to help. (THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!)
I get pretty good battery life too.
I even rooted my Nook , what a difference it made.
Now have a Transformer Prime aged gett ing ready to take the plunge there too.
It's fun and you won't regret it! - 06-14-2012, 04:06 PM

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
I (finally!) just received my new epic frome Sprint. I am going to install ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7 and CyanogenMod 9 ICS today, but should I activate my phone and put my phone number first or wait until after I do all this installation?

Get yourself up + running first, get your connection w/ Sprint activated +established, then your connection w/ Google established making sure the phone is able to make calls / receive calls, voicemail, etc.............make sure data works, emails, messaging, etc, in fact make sure EVERYTHING else works to assure yourself that the device is 100% operative FIRST.
..............then go ahead + run 'Update Profile', 'Update PRL' from your settings: menu/System settings/About phone/System updates/UpdateProfile+UpdatePRL.
If all your basic stuff works, you're good to go!.....may the ODIN Gods be with You!!!
Any questions, there are plenty of good knowledgeable peeps on this thread to help you along

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
i'm currently on beta4. i had problems with MMS after initially upgrading to CM9. (I use handscent if it matters). Anyway, when sending an MMS it would take a ridiculously long time (like 15 mins instead of the normal 15 seconds) to send. Now that I have beta 4 it doesn't seem to send at all (let it run for a day before I finally deleted the message).
I don't know what the new build stuff means and I don't want to install something new on my phone that only advance users who know what they're doing can fix.
What does "Type" mean on this page and do one of those builds fix my issue? - 06-20-2012, 04:08 PM

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
Your MMS issue was an upstream issue that has been completely fixed with the build from this post:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/epi...ml#post1859438
The link on your post refers to the Epic CM NIGHTLIES (posted a similar page a couple posts above here, w/ detailed Changelogs for the ÜberCurious amongst us!)........Nightlies are full CM9_ROMS, albeit each release slightly different than the last, + these are experimental in nature + accelerated releases that ultimately will land CM9 on a Release Candidate status.
Nightlies ARE perfectly stable for use, + you are encouraged to flash your DownLoad same way that you have been doing w/ alphas + betas: Your choice either you wipe cache/dalvik cache or NOT/ your choice whether you flash GApps after or NOT/ Just FLASH right over your current CM9 ROM! (Am currently running Nightly0618.
)..................if there are issues w/ your ROM, you simply re-DL the file + wipe data/factory reset THEN flash your CM9-Nightly, + THEN flash your GApps zip, then boot to system............if you run into a Soft-Brick while flashing a Nightly, then your only recourse is the 'back-to-stock' method using ODIN (a quick handy tutorial is posted on OP at bottom of links.)
*REMEMBER: a Full_Backup Nandroid is good practice prior to flashing anything.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
Ok. I'm a believer.
I watched QBKING's video and it looked pretty easy. Last night I downloaded the CM and GApps packages and pulled the trigger. I admit it's pretty cool.
In case you're a n00b like me and thought this was something that you didn't want to hassle with, I can assure you it's pretty easy. It turns out that I do have the proper recovery console installed. If you rooted and "stopped FC09 notification" based on instructions in this forum, then you have the things in place to accomplish this.
I did a full titanium backup. I did a nandroid backup. I installed appbak, sms backup and call log backup and ran those. I watched the video. I downloaded the CM package and the Google Apps and moved them to my SD card. Did the full wipes from the recovery console. Installed CM from the zip. powered down and installed the gapps from zip. When it came up, I added my google market info and then downloaded the appbak thing. But I dont think I needed it. When I went into titanium, it showed all my old apps from before with a line through them. I just had to touch each one and "restore". If you use that app bak, you just are linked to the market where you can download it again> But then you have to remember the passwords and everything. When you use titanium to restore app and data, it's configured the way it was before. This was good for my weather app that requires a login which I forget and life360. I have no idea how to configure that one from scratch.
The look and feel are very cool and snappy. Most of the old apps work. The paid ones are still the paid versions, so I didn't lose anything.
I am assuming that if I wanted to, I could restore the nandroid backup and it would be just like it was yesterday. Is that right?
Anyway, I don't foresee going back. I dig this. - 06-21-2012, 07:51 PM #417
No, do "not" restore that nandroid. Cm9 runs on a different partition table than stock. If you restore it you will soft brick your device. You must first odin to stock with the pit file and repartition checked in order to return you to the stock partition layout and file system. Then you can flash recovery and restore your backup.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
There are several threads here + there that are discursive about the subject of the BML/MTD conversion, + the potential for a Soft-Bricked device..........*ouch* no good!
Here's a little backstory about the conversion from Stock BML to the MTD Partition System, + a detailed 'HOW-to-UNDO-a-SOFTBRICK'........just open the following link + scroll all the way thru the post towards the bottom.................the post contains some some very valuable information for our newer members experimenting with CyanogenMod for the very first time:
Conflicts w/ CyanogenMod + Touchwiz MTD Kernels and RECOVERY
It's very important to use ODIN for clean installs, as it always flushes out potential conflicts that embed themselves into the firmware somehow............anyways, hope this helps!

Interesting. Since all I did was wipe and install cm9 from zip on my sd card, I wouldnt think odin would be required to go back.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement program manager widget? I used the gb one pretty often to make sure I didnt leave an app running in the background by hitting home instead of backing out. Most common are task killers which I dont want. - 06-24-2012, 07:57 PM #421
Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
I seem to be getting alot of time without service after flashing this. Last couple times I've checked, it's been 10% or more - up to 14%. There is no difference in where I've been spending my time. Just normal workdays.
I loaded the boot from sd card utility and updated my prl, but it said none was available. - 06-24-2012, 08:40 PM #422

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
You might be onto something with the "time without service". When I'm on CM9 (or any other ICS rom), I will miss calls. No notification that a call came in and was missed, just suddenly get a VM notification. If I look at the logs on GV, it shows that there are a lot more instances of missed calls, none of which ever made it to the phone. I have good voice service at home (we'll leave data out of this), and never have a missed call that didn't get to the phone otherwise. I've noticed ~25% TWOS pretty consistently. This has been on each of the CM9 betas. I am running the FC09 baseband, installed via ODIN as part of the official ROM Tar File, I have also tried the old stock file in the recovery thread, and let the OTA update to FC09 rom/modem.

Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
I installed this rom and spent the day going thru it and customizing it etc etc. I really want to like it but these issues prevent me...
-I cannot start the camera from inside an mms "capture video" crashes the camera app
-I am not able to send any video mail from videos created by the camera. I get exceeded message limit failed to send mms, doesnt matter the resolution or the length of the video
-The camera does not have an "MMS mode" to make videos
-There is no way to bulk create playlists in the apollo music player or select from a list of songs. You have to long press individual songs and select add to playlist. This isn't a deal breaker but a PITA. The workaround is 3rd party app.
-If you install visual voicemail installed you will get a 9016 sms every time you get a voicemail.
I searched and searched but could find a solution to the MMS and camera issues.
Anyone have comments on the MMS/camera issues? - 06-25-2012, 06:30 PM #425
Re: [ROM][EPIC 4G][CM9] CM9: CyanogenMod v 9.0.0-BETA-4
It seems like I did better today. I did boot from the SD to the stack version and updated the PRL. it said no update was available, but today my time without signal was 0%. Weird.
Something else, I screwed around with CM9 in the first place (and rooted) because of te battery life on an epic 4g. I measured this by my $1.99 battery spy app, which draws these fancy graphs and shows you how quickly your battery is dying. I swear that thing always reported that I was discharging at over 10% hour - minimum.
Well, today I killed the app and the service and drove for 3 hours down country roads across the state through a bunch of cornfields and dairy farms it only went down 3% that whole time.
Battery spy sucks - literally. It sucks your battery dry.
Live and learn.
Since I have this settled down, I need to figure out why I can't wifi tether my wife's galaxy tab2 to this thing.
