    Exclamation um, HELP! PLEASE?

hello. my name is Jayson and im having a problem with my Sprint samsung epic 4g. its from the Galaxy S line and i got it from a friend. it had a pattern lock and i was trying to unlock it when the Android system recovery popped up. all i know is that the model number is: SPH-D700 I DONT KNOW IF THAT HELPS AT ALL OR NOT.
heres what i keep seeing and keep running into:

    Android system recovery <3e>

Enter: OK Key. Select : Vol Up / Vol Down
    reboot system now
    apply update from sdcard
    wipe data/factory reset
    wipe cache partition

    # MANUAL MODE #

i tried everything to reset the phone to its factory defaults but nothing happens. i have even tried pressing every button and it seems to have froze with the exception it the 4 front panel buttons: menu, home, go back, and search with nothing happening but the button flashing one time after each press. i have also tried holding the power button, camera and vol up to get to the recovery screen but after that the vol up and vol down buttons are the onlt things that seem to work. i tried scrolling down to wipe data/factory reset and pressing the home button but nothing happens, i press all the other buttons and still i get the same result as before. please help me! i dont know what im doing wrong......

please help me!i dont know what it was using for an os and i dont know what software it uses.
please, if you can help me to do this i would most appreciate it.

    THANK YOU!

also im having to use my sprint incogneto as a medium to transfer data.

I would recommend talking to your friend and getting the pattern lock "code" from them to unlock the device. Otherwise you will have to take it into a Sprint store and see what they can do for you or your friend.

There is one option if your not getting anywhere with the stock android recovery.

Follow procedure #1 this will put official Froyo EC05 on your device. From there you can update into Gingerbread which is now the official OS of the Epic 4g.

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

Note: This will completely erase/wipe the device back to factory stock how it appears when you purchase it from Sprint.

SD Card contents will not be harmed in this process.

If you're having problems using the "home" key when in recovery mode, try using the camera button to select what you want to do once you get to the command you want. That's another option for trying to choose what you want to do in recovery mode. And I would suggest you get CWM 5.2.0.7 because that is a way more stable recovery mode than ACS.
    Hope that helped,

OP's Origional recovery is the stock one.
I do recommend getting CWM on there, if nothing else but for the ability to backup and restore at will, even if you don't plan on rooting, romming or anything else.
Sprint Galaxy Nexus [stock for now]
    BB 8130, iPhone 4 8g, iPhone 3g 16gb, Toshiba e800, Palm Tungsten T
[retired]Epic 4g, BB8330, BB 9670, Samsung Intercept, Katana DLX, Sanyo 8400, HTC Wizard, MPX220, and many others...

Agreed about what the OP said. But I know nothing about that.I just know Ive tried both and so I gave her the advice on the recovery I dont try to speak on what I dont know.
    Thanks,
