Can epic be rooted after being flashed to Cricket?

Changing the recovery using ODIN, and installing SU binary from the new recovery should not affect anything other than granting you root access.

Yes it does work, I flashed an epic 4g to cricket rooted installed cwm, changed roms a few hundred times, and even updated a modem and returned to stock without it being unflashed.

Awesome thanks! I've already rooted an HTC, so I'm at least familiar with CWM; off to find a ROM without all those damn Sprint apps!

Hmmm, generic questions:

This firmware on this device is slightly dated. With my HTC the root instructions madated that you never update the firmware, as the latest could not be rooted. Is this the case here? Stats are = Firmware 2.2.1, Kernel 2.6.32.9, Build Froyo EC05.

Given that this is now a Cricket phone, what's the best ROM that has no Sprint apps left on it?

What are my best hotspot app/hack options?

hey wow i came across this and i think you can answer my question im a total newbie to this so sorry if its like distrubing you.. BUT I ROOTED MY EPIC 4G TOUCH BEFORE THE NEW UPDATE ON IT. BUT WHEN THE UPDATE CAME OUT I COULDNT GET IT BECAUSE IT WASNT ON SPRINT ANYMROE ITS ON CRICKET SO I CANT DO THE FIRMWIRE UPDATE.. ND IVE BEEN WONDERING IF I PUT NEW ROMS LIKE A 4.0 ICE CREAM SANDWICH WILL IT TAKE OUT CRICKET??!! AND IF NOT ND GOOD TO GO.. CAN YOU GIVE ME LINKS ND A PROCESS OF HOW TO GET ROMS AND PUT INSTALL THE ROM??.. SORRY ITS USUALLY MY BROTHER WHO DOES ALL THIS STUFF AND IM NO LONGER NEAR HIM SO I HAVE TO DO IT MYSELF
