does anyone care to explain what exactly is CyanogenMod, and why are so many excited over this? thanks

Guys, you're actually way luckier than I am. I can't get cyanogenmod to flash with either Amon Ra or ClockworkMod custom recovery. You guys will probably have more access to Cyanogenmod than I do, lol!
I got it working once, but almost ended up bricking my Evo. - 10-03-2010, 02:46 PM #4

will this incorporate the froyo source code?

To the previous two replies:
CyanogenMod has value after the official 2.2 from Samsung/Sprint is rolled to the Epic. Cyanogen is essentially "AOSP" (Android Open Source Project), meaning it is pure Android without any manufacturer/carrier junk on it. In theory (and usually, in practice), faster, less bloat. Out of the gates, it is customized to what these developer/users like, instead of what the manufacturer/carriers like.
Also, CyanogenMod 6 is based on Android 2.2 "Froyo". - 11-11-2010, 07:46 AM #15

Still in the developmental phase. AFAIK it's only one guy working on it (noobnl), so it's probably a ways off.
