Deodex allows for cool stuff like themeing. Stock is odex, do I would go with deodex.

perfect got it done, I think the fastest way to restore everything is install my backup from market and restore right?
Also what rom do you recommend if I use my phone A LOT all day and want real good battery life and want some good awesome features and stuff? - 12-06-2010, 12:22 AM
Thread Author #5
That's what I use to restore, works well.
I'm using Quantum ROM - the dev put in a longer WiFi scan interval to help battery, and it is noticeably faster than stock Froyo. Also has some TouchWiz upgrades, optional Hulu and optional Christmas Theme. - 12-06-2010, 12:26 AM #6
ok so easy way to use that would be go into rom manager and install it? what about some of these apps people talk about that came on the other galaxy phones? what else is the benefit of these different roms? like you said much faster what else
like this guy was saying on this version he screwed up and it has that security error when you put the usb cable but he would fix it, when he does it will it auto fix on mine or i need to reload?
btw can I just change roms like the one were saying by simply using rom manager or do i need to like do other stuff? as in do I need to backup n restore everything everytime?Last edited by ragnarokx; 12-06-2010 at 12:39 AM. Reason: merged 3 posts

The features for each ROM are listed in their respective threads in this forum - you can check each one out and see what catches your eye.
Not sure what you're talking about in that second part - what guy? And does his phone have the security error or yours? [confused]
Just boot into Clockwork and apply the zip file of the ROM to install. - 12-06-2010, 12:40 AM #8
I did notice what a few people were talking about the applications being out of order and going into settings, apps and redoing the a-z didnt fix it, any fix for this?

Going to that a-z option in the Applications settings puts them in alphabetical order - what order did you want them in?
- 12-06-2010, 01:03 AM #10
on mine under apps they are not in a-z even after I did that, I was talking about on the xda forums the guy who put up the file you linked for the one click no root no clockwork mod that I installed mentioned on the deox one that when the usb is pugged in there is a security error

I restored all my data everything through mybackup and all my homescreens that I had which had all my direct dials are all gone?
when I press applications now, as I noticed yesterday when I was not done with the whole process, it seems to give the wait glass for a long time before bringing up the apps, why is this?
Also my groups that I made in google are there under my contacts, but no contacts are in them how come?
holly crap! I restored my contacts through myback and now it is deleting all my contacts in google on my account, how do I get them all back in there and into the correct groups?Last edited by ragnarokx; 12-06-2010 at 01:49 AM. Reason: merged posts

I've never heard of that error. Is it causing problems for you?
MyBackup backs up apps and their data - not everything in your system. Sorry, I thought you were familiar with the program!
You should let Google restore your contacts - just use MyBackup for apps. Check your Google account on a computer and see what your contacts look like and if they've changed. - 12-06-2010, 02:22 AM #13
I did i checked on google on the computer and they are now ALL gone lol everything is 0 lol how can I put them on there if I do have them on my phone? i tried to sycn didnt work
Btw I have rom manager and it STILL says I dont have a clockwork mod installed and therefor wont let me install any roms and it still gives the same error when I try to install, UNLESS the only way to install roms now is manual and not through rom manager is that right?
btw what can I use to do a true full backup of my homescreen and all? Cause since this does not have a widget like the Evo for my quick dials I have to do direct dial icons on two screens lolLast edited by ragnarokx; 12-06-2010 at 10:07 AM. Reason: merged 3 posts

Don't use ROM Manger to install anything - use Clockwork. And a backup using Clockwork is probably the most complete backup you can get.

I have downloaded and placed this file on my sd card. Do I go into Recover Mode and update from sd card? I read do NOT use Rom manager.
This is first time I am flashing Epic, so different than previous phones and trying to take the simplest, most effective, one step way out since I don't fully understand kermel, modem, etc - just know I need all to work, and would rather stay with Stock vs others out there. - 12-06-2010, 11:31 AM

Man I am having a field day with this new rom lol All the weird stuff I found is listed below see if you can help me:
1. all the ringtones are listed 3 times each, is there a fix?
2. the call log includes texts, wth? I want calls only in call log
3. I use handcent sms and disabled the notifications on the stock app but still get the numerical number on the home screen on the message envelope, anyway to stop this?
4. how do i use the numbers in my phone to backup to google account considering restoring from mybackup erased all my online contacts
I cant think of other stuff ill repost as it comes to me - 12-06-2010, 02:01 PM

2. http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic...fications.html - second link down under Misc Mods
4. You could try restoring your contacts while in Airplane mode and changing them individually to be associated with your Google account instead of your phone
Hopefully someone else can chime in for 1 and 2 - 12-06-2010, 03:44 PM #19
I followed instruction exactly, thank you for being nice when telling me to re-read instructions, I had seen them and assumed for 17. And the sd card was from another method.
I have it loaded and functioning, data services too a little while to come back on, so I was sweating that. I also thought Titanium Backup would copy apps, so wrong, read above and use proper backup for apps. But if that is the worst I lose from an upgraded systems, it will give me something to do - shop the marketplace!!
SD card is good and see no problems. Testing Wireless Tether, old version didn't work, found Pre 11 and I'm up and running.
This works, I just ask the moderators to keep us in the loop - while I was setting here, cruising forums and saw the leaked Dk28 might not be final version. As long as mine is working, don't know and don't care. But much of the confusion comes from so many ways to accomplish the goal - getting Froyo and now that I'm rooted (and couldn't get it unrooted), this is a great program that individuals have put together and supported. I just hope the updates for this version, if any, are well communicated and so easy to follow.
My Thanks - and everyone remember to push the Thanks button for the help they get - that is the least you can do to support these people who work and share to make our systems work better. - 12-06-2010, 03:46 PM #20

Glad to help! And honestly I've been contemplating making a complete guide on the 5 or 6 different ways to update to Froyo DK28, but it seems that most of the people who were interested in updating already have, and with my luck a new Froyo version or the OTA update will be release the second I finish that guide
- 12-06-2010, 06:08 PM #22
I came from Pre and that is one of the things PreCentral did well - unified and simplified the guides. Of course I was very comfortable, had Doctor if you screwed up. With Android, a lot of us are learning, several directions and if they aren't written well or a step left out, no way to fix. That is one of the reasons I have been very, very hesitant to mod my phone in anyway, ie OneClick Root and its installer now doesn't work.
If you can sticky this, its easy, effective, I'm sure there are others out there.
And then more importantly, update this thread if new Froyo comes out and/or what OTA does. I had done the old, long way of hacking the Hero, could uninstall thru RUU, but see no way this one works that way. It also didn't allow updates to come through, don't know if this one does, or needs to. Or what comes in the future.
Again, thanks, you followed up on answers, in English not techni babble, which increases the comfort zone of those trying to accomplish something. - 12-06-2010, 06:23 PM
