I need to root to get wifi and were we just moved i need wifi from my device. Only problem... I cant get internet on a laptop or pc so i can only do it from my phone. I know it can be done on certain phones cause i rooted my htc hero on the phone itself. Just dunno the method to do it by using just the phone...

Read the stickies at the top of this forum to root, then you can choose which tether app you want. I use

No you need a PC to root. I thought you were looking to tether your phone to the PC for Internet access.

just for the tether this normally works from Koush.
then download your root and unlock files to finish the job.
download.clockworkmod.com/tether/Tether.apk or
