Why are people buying a SCREEN PROTECTOR??!
Its made out of friggin Gorilla glass... all these stupid screen protectors ARE A SCAM. You will sooner rip the screen protector off than scratch your evos screen. Furthermore, there is no such protector that helps with oil. The oil residue (which we ALL naturally produce on our bodies) will come into contact with whatever you are touching. It will not magically vanish into thin air because of a plastic screen protector.
Cmon guys... do your homework. Stop aimlessly spending money on crap. - 07-03-2010, 01:55 AM #2
Werx, you would be incorrect my dear boy. I have ever so slight hairline scratches on my Evo. Far far far from me to care or worry about, but they are most certainly there. I did visit the beach, so maybe I scratched the screen with sand, but they are there nonetheless. Just a friendly FYI.

Well I've tried scratching my phone with scissors and it didn't do anything so, until it gets a large streak across it. I'm not getting a screen protector, because it makes the touch screen just a tad-bit less sensitive.

all i have to say to the creator of this post is do your homework. and to those who tried to defend what he said also do your homework. neither sprint nor htc has said anything about this phone having gorilla glass and until i htc says that it does, in my opinion it has normal glass and i will keep my screen protector

Re: Why are people buying a SCREEN PROTECTOR??!
I've always used screen protectors on all my mobile devices. They are not a scam. No glass is scratch proof. I've seen both iPhones and Droid Incredibles with numerous large scratches. Besides, if you do a good install, you don't even notice it's there, and you can swipe away without worrying. If scratches or the possibility of scratches don't bother you, than swipe away at that naked screen. Otherwise, a good quality screen protector like SPG's or Seidio's is well worth it.

To cover or not to cover its a matter of choice I can see good arguments in both directions. I have watched the videos kept up with the conversation and what I have seen is shattered screens but what I have not seen is a scratched one. We have had these devices for a while now and I would think that if scratches were common there would be tuns of pictures of scratched screens going around. I don't know what kind of glass this is but it seams its close to indestructible or at least it will brake before it scratches so for me I will remain unprotected. I am already paying $7 a month why should I have to buy a screen protected isn't that what TEP is for.

I somehow put 2 scratches on my screen the first day I had my phone. Without dropping it, or hitting the screen wity anything. It's certainly not invincible.
That's why I bought a screen protector.Thanked by: - 07-03-2010, 08:09 AM #14
I put a Zagg Invisishield on my phone a week after I got it. I got a custom full cover because I like the design on the back of the phone and it DOES reduce the amount of oil deposits you leave on the screen. I screwed up the screen side and it's killing me while I wait for the replacement. I have to clean the screen constantly without it on.

With most high quality dry screen protectors, it is impossible to even tell it's there. Also, I can say for a fact that they do cut down on the ammount of oils transferred to the screen from your fingers. I don't have to clean the screen every time I look at it with my boxwave. - 07-03-2010, 08:36 AM #17

Agreed. I enjoy my Boxwave Ant-Glare protector a lot. No fingerprints, no glare.

I just love the phone and I'm paranoid. It lives in my pocket and sometimes, if I've had too much to drink the night before and my Evo alarm is waking me up the next day I may not be reaching for it too nicely in the morning.

I personally dont like the look of a screen protector and carried the Hero in my pocket for 5 months without one and when I sold it on June 5th it looked new. No screen protector on my Evo for nearly a month now and not even the slightest scratch. That said I am very careful with my Evo.

From what I understand, the Evo does NOT have Gorilla Glass, but rather a different type of scratch resistant glass. If HTC was using Gorilla Glass, I think they would advertise it as a feature.
I do have a couple small scratches on my screen. They are impossible to see when the screen is on, and I have to hold the phone at just the right angle to see them when the screen is off, but they are there. - 07-03-2010, 10:19 AM #22
it would all depend...... Some one wrote on this forum once that it had Gorilla Glass and other people said it didn't. I sent an e-mail to HTC and the Makers of Gorilla glass at Corning.... HTC just said they could not confirm or deny (Like they were in Congress or the Senate) and Corning said they do not discuss who their partners are but they could tell me that their product is used by over 150 different MFG's in the world.....
I have never seen or heard HTC or Sprint say it has Gorilla glass and none of the spec sheets show that either...
As for screen protectors... You know if you want to use one then do it... They are $10 - 20 depending on what you use.... Chump change really.. If you want to go naked then so be it.... If your @$$ burns don't complain you were naked.... Why any one would question what other people want to do..
Why do people buy bottled water when you can get it free out the faucet? To each his own...... - 07-03-2010, 10:28 AM #23
Nothing stays perfect forever, but I for one personally like the feel of the naked screen much better than one with a screen protector on. I am only going to have this phone for one year, maybe 2 years.... and I am pretty careful with my phones, so I am not too worried. Even my Pres plastic screen is barely scratched.
Personal preference, that's all it boils down to. - 07-03-2010, 10:58 AM #24

Peace of Mind...that's it.
I love my Ghost Armor on my Evo, I don't freak out if my keys are touching my phone. Or if their are coins in the same pocket.
