Klipsch, Ultimate Ears, Skullcandy. Those are a few brands that I can attest to the sound being good. As far as functioning as a headset (they all have headset models, but I've only used the headphone only versions) I can't say.

I bought "V-MODA Vibe Duo Earbuds/Headset" from a recommendation by someone else. I was a little skeptical because they were only $23. But I ended up liking them so much I bought two more pairs: Amazon.com: V-MODA Vibe Duo Earbuds/Headset

I'm not trying to start an argument but I haven't been impressed with any of the Bose in ear stuff. They have great midrange but lack in bass and the high end. I generally don't like Bose because of the price, but the sound is usually pretty good. That's not the case IMHO with the in ear headphones. They seem to have taken a step back with sound quality with these.

Man, I *hear* you 100%. I think for the money you can get a better sounding pair of headphones, I'm not sure about headsets. They just released the "IE2" series of headphones and headsets and I can't comment on them because I've only used the version that's been out since 2007 (the first zebra striped ones).
I recently broke my headphones and went with the bose headset, even though I knew at the price range I'd be able to get a better sounding headphone, but here's why (for me):
The comfort, the in ear headphones/headset are by far the most comfortable anything I've ever put in my ear. I have 3 hours total commuting time per day by train and listen at my desk almost all day long.. which leads me to my second point. I need to be able to hear what's around me, I ride the subway in nyc everyday so this is just a good idea for safety and train announcements, as well even at decent volume I can still hear the phone ring or someone call my name. The bose set is not noise cancelling. Overall I think the comfort, the fact that I can still hear some environment noises and the sound quality - which to me gets better with less background noise - was the perfect combo of what I needed.Fred

That all definitely makes sense and was probably a wise decision. Safety first. I just wish they would work on sound quality, but like you said maybe they did with the new version. I haven't heard them. They also just came out with a bluetooth headset that I'm really interested in hearing about.

I am not an audiophile by any means, but I am using the headphones that came with my wife's EPIC. They are of decent enough quality, a little light on the low end, but otherwise they work great. they have a microphone built in as well.
Not bad for something that was "free." - 10-27-2010, 06:10 PM #11Forum Rules & Guidelines -- CLICK HERE

Like I said, I really like them. Not only do they have decent sound, but the fit is very comfortable. I agree that they are better than the Apple ones.

I used these with my Pre and the mic worked great for calls, sound was acceptable considering they doubled as a way to make calls (I have a pricey over-ear headset for when I really want great sound).
I just bought a second pair for to keep in my other bag: Amazon.com: FOR HTC : Nexus One / Droid Eris / Imagio / Hero / Touch Pro2 / 3.5mm jack Stereo Handfree Headphone Headset WITH MIC.: Cell Phones & Accessories: Reviews, Prices & more
Can't beat the price (though the shipping costs seem to have gone up a good but since I purchased mine)...
UPDATE: Here are the ones I got. Price is closer to $6 with shipping: http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Handsfre...f=cm_cr_wr_imgLast edited by srfcrzy; 11-06-2010 at 06:12 PM.
