Hello,

-I have recently purchased the Wilson Sleek 4G-V antenna booster system with the home office adapter kit for my droid razr.

-I live in a rural area with maximum DSL download speed of 1 MB per second, and use my razr's mobile hotspot to broadcast to a "WiFi
as WAN" router which allows my desktop and laptop computers reasonable speeds.

-I live about 2.5 miles away from the nearest tower, and without the booster system, my phone achieves -95 dbm, with download speeds ranging between 8 and 12 MB per second, and upload speeds between 3 and 6 MB per second.

-With the Wilson system, I get down to -72 dbm, and my upload speeds range between 15 and 17 MB per second. However, paradoxically,my download speed slows to between 5and 10 MB per second.

-I contacted Wilson customer support, and they were great, and I've even tried one of their Yagi antennas specific for 4G LTE data (13 dbm boost), which got my phone down to -62 dbm. Once again, my upload speeds were very fast but my download speeds were actually slower.

-I have manipulated multiple variables, including refreshing what tower my phone connects to, and multiple reboots. In addition, I have the 3G/4G optimizer app, and manipulating the phones antenna power settings and whether download or upload speed is optimized did not seem to help. The
Bionic TCP buffer app and other 4G booster apps did not seem to affect this issue at all.

-When I am in town, and my phone picks up -72 dbm or so (-69 dbm is the fastest I've ever connected naturally), my download speeds are in the mid-20s, sometimes peaking at 30. My upload speeds are in the high teens and occasionally reaching 20.

-Neither Verizon nor Wilson customer support has any idea why this is occurring. Verizon has sent me a new Sim card which I have not yet installed.

-My razr was bought approximately one year ago and came with gingerbread, which I rooted, then I unrooted and rerooted for ice cream sandwich, and most recently installed the jellybean update, and finally rooted this. I haven't had any serious problems with my phone along the way.

-I'm very encouraged by the potential of the Wilson system I have, and debating whether to return it just in case it might really work well with my next device. I am curious if anyone has any additional ideas why this might be occurring or what can be done about it, or if anyone has had a similar experience.

-Thanks for your attention and input

Hey everyone,

so I'm sure there's already a thread for this, but I'm so frustrated at this point  I'm just going to throw it out there. I bought the Verizon Driod XT912 from an online store and used it on Verizon while I was in the US but now I'm home and I need to be able to use this phone on the Rogers network in Canada. I can get texts and phone calls but it says it doesn't recognize the SIM card, I've heard rumours that this phone isn't unlockable... is this true and I'm just up the river without a paddle on this one?

Thanks in advance

Two features that I used often that disappeared after the 4.1.2 upgrade were the timer (countdown) feature of the clock/alarm function and the sounds to silent without having to undo each and every notifying ring tone from the tune you have to silent. The timer feature as part of the clock/alarm function was a great feature for those of us involved in public speaking and presentations as it was a great way to be sure you stay to your time slot and I don't understand why they would have removed this. This upgrade also removed the ability to turn your phone on "silent" while in business meetings without having to undo your normal ring tone so that it was a one-touch way to silence your phone while in meetings, conferences, etc, but now that is gone too (and the airplane function isn't what I want because then nothing comes in whether silent or otherwise). The only way you can put it on silent is to change your ring tone to silent and do this for each and every messaging ring tone (texts, calls, emails, etc.). The one-touch silent feature was nice. There is a screen now in sound settings where you can "scale back" the volume/sounds for each of the types of notifications, but for some reason, some of these will automatically increase their volume without you manually telling it to increase again. I used to be able to silence my texts coming in while on phone calls because they would beep while on the call which would disrupt my voice and the sound of the call. Now, putting those dial-back volumes does not keep the text beeps from interfering with the phone call sound. I don't know how to silence those twitter texts now while on the phone and my colleagues say it is very disruptive to the call when I have these tweets coming in. Again, I don't understand why they would have eliminated these 2 very convenient features. Did the developers not talk to any users before eliminating these features?! I want them back!!! ASAP.

I have Gmail (both on the PC and my Android), and I religiously synch them so that if I lose my Android all would not be lost. So far so good; but I find that if I put a custom ringtone to Google contacts (or a different default ringtone for my Google contacts), after I synch with the PC I've lost all the custom ringtones and the custom default ringtone. I've looked at Gmail on the PC, and there doesn't seem to be a place anywhere there for ringtones. Am I missing something? Can I synch my Gmail from Android to PC or PC to Android and keep the custom ringtones I want? (And my apologies if this issue has been covered in the Forums; I am still relatively new to Android.)

OK so I had to get my phone replaced (under warranty, thank goodness). My old phone didn't have any problems when I cursed while using the speech-to-text portion of the phone for text messaging.

However, the newer phone that I got now censors all the curse words that I use. (then all end up as "s***"). It took me awhile to figure out how to disable to offensive word filter, but I managed it (system settings -> language & input -> google voice typing -> uncheck 'block offensive words').

OK - that option is no longer checked. YET... the phone is STILL filtering out all my curse words. HOW do I change that?!?

Thanks guys and gals for your help,

Hi,

I'm a newb to phone tech so bear with me. I have a Razr V (XT885) on Virgin Mobile up

here in Canada. For some mysterious reason, native android device encryption support has

been disabled on this phone. I asked about it on Motorola's forums, but they had nothing

helpful to say about it.

So I'd like to maybe see if I can get some other ROM on this phone. Thing is, I'd like

to be able to completely revert it to factory if I need warranty support. I've searched

for people doing such with this phone and I didn't find much. Apparently this isn't a

very popular phone. That's why I'm asking for help.

-I rooted the phone.
-I have access to another phone (my wife's) that has never been rooted/altered.

After rooting the device, I'm not sure how to:

-make a backup of the factory-set system to enable complete factory restore. Seems like

the rooting process adds files to the /system directory that are still there after a

system restore. Not sure how to deal with that.

-what tools/techniques to actually use to do this.

-how to recover from "soft bricking" the phone.

I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Thanks

I power it off at night (yes, I know I don't need to do that, but it's easier than writing an action to turn the ringer off when I'm at home, etc... because my schedule varies) and sometimes it reboots right after I powered it up for the day.

Since the JB update, i have had nothing but problems with the stock app. When it sends a message it leaves the message as pending. It will never change, even if it is sent and then received by the person, my phone still says that the message it pending. This happens with about 98% of all texts i send throughout the day. The only time that the specific message will say that it was sent and then says that it is received through a delivery report, is if i copy it and then send it again.

Now as i said before it doesnt tell you it sent, but it actually did, thats not always the case. more often then not unless i send that second copy the first one never sends at all, but as soon as the copy is sent. they both send with only the copy saying it sent and the original being left as pending.

Another issue that seems to happen sporadically, and i have no idea how this one happens at all, the message i receive gets switched to saying that i sent it. So basically, if i send a text recieve a text and then go to send another one, some how that one text i received now says that i have sent it. It doesnt send a copy of it, but it shows up on my phone as if it may have. No one has ever questioned me about sending there text back to them, so I'm only assuming that it doesnt send.

Does anyone else have issues similar to this?

Hi, I have numerous music albums/artists/songs loaded onto my SD card that are not showing up in my music player. I have tried installing several different music players with the same results. The same music files are not showing up. I've tried, as has been suggested online, unmounting my SD card, removing it, putting it back in, then "refreshing" my player or having the player re-scan the music collection, nothing helps so far. All the music files are .mp3's. Is there a certain way music files have to be titled, or something else that could be causing the problem? Is there a limit to the number of music files? I only have 1000 or so. I also tried clearing my Media Storage cache, no luck either. It's really a drag because my phone is my main source of music, especially when driving, and I just can't get to hear some of my favorite songs. Any suggestions for this problem? Thanks!
