Why am I getting IO error when attaching pic to email

someone had sent me their email address in a Facebook IM, so I clicked it to sent a picture to that email. It brought up my email choices (hotmail, work email), so I chose work email and it automatically added the email address to the TO field. I clicked the ADD ATTACHMENT button, selected the picture from my gallery, and it gave me error "Unable to add attachment due to IO error". Any ideas how to fix this?

Welcome to Android Central! Where is the picture that you want to send? Try the following sequence instead:

1. Create a new contact with that email address.
2. Go to your Gallery app, tap the photo you want to send, and tap the Share button, then Email.
3. When the Compose Email screen comes up, select that new contact as the recipient.
4. Now see if you can email it.
