I just uninstalled and reinstalled Facebook Messenger, and the app is treating me like a new user after signing in with the phone number I was using previously. I cannot access any of my conversations or contacts.
Before doing this, I did a quick Google search to make sure that reinstalling Messenger would not wipe my data. I found various posts saying that it is all saved on the server and not locally, so it would be fine. It turns out this was not very good info.
I signed up for Messenger with my phone number because I don't have a Facebook profile. Is it possible that Messenger only saves your data if you have it linked to a Facebook profile?
Even so, is there a way I can restore it? My phone number should be enough information to identify me, so I'm mainly wondering why the app didn't recognize it after I entered it and how I can get it to do so. My data was on a server before this, so it's still floating around somewhere. The problem is regaining access to it....
