We've been working on it for most of the year and I really hope at least some of you enjoy it. Think of it as a mix of Motorsport Manager, New Star Soccer and a little bit of UFC thrown in.

It's a menu-driven management game where you're running a gym, building up the facilities, recruiting fighters and coaching/cornering them in fights. It's entirely 2D, with our character art style leaning towards a comicbook style and our UI trying to make use of Google's Material design style guide for colour use. Fights play out procedurally with the fighter's skill levels, martial arts disciplines and gameplans all affecting how they play out. The actual "action" plays out like the kind of play by play descriptions of fights you'd see on sports websites or the to the point descriptions from a good commentator.

If you want to see what how it actually plays, I stuck up a walkthrough of the tutorial on YouTube. It's about 15 min long and does involve trying to interpret my Scottish accent though :-X.

So far, almost everyone that's actually reviewed it on Android has been overwhelmingly positive about the game with the Google Play version sitting on a solid on 5 stars. Annoyingly, we've found it really difficult to get much coverage from traditional game or mobile sites. There's a couple of sites taking a look and fingers crossed theres should be some more detailed/journalistic reviews soon. We did get a great piece from Vice Sports though :) and some coverage from Pocket Tactics and Droid Gamers.

I'd love to hear what people think of it. Ideas on what you think we should add or are missing would be awesome too. We've already updated the once with several new features based on player requests and plan on keeping on updating and adding new features to the game regularly.

Anyway, if you think you might want to get it, it's $1.99 USD/ $2.49 CAN / £1.99 GBP and it's on Google play:

We've released a new update for MMA Manager and it's got its first Website review! A Bronze award from PocketGamer - MMA Manager review | Pocket Gamer

Basically marked down a bit for needing some MMA knowledge and being text heavy, but has some great quotes like:
  • "An MMA simulator as beautiful as the bloody and bruised fighters it celebrates, MMA Manager is nevertheless fun and well-constructed."
  • "If you spend your days flexing your fists and practising your fighting footwork, this is the perfect game to liven up the bus stop."
  • "Waiting for the next line of text to tell you whether your fighter has landed a kick or been bludgeoned is as intense as if you were watching the match in glorious 3D."
Still holding strong at a solid 4.8 stars on Google Play as well :). Frustratingly, the 2 reviews that lowered us from 5 didn't leave a written review so the we can't act on their feedback :(.

The new update contains:
  • Metric Measurements Option
  • Explanation why your fighter may not be offered a fight
  • Fights changed to No Contest only when the winner fails a drug test.
  • Players can now skip tutorial on subsequent playthroughs
  • Miscellaneous fixes and improvements.

We've gotten a good review for MMA Manager from Zero1Gaming :) MMA Manager Review | Zero1Gaming

Update 1.2 has also just been submitted to Google Play and should hopefully be out within the next couple of hours. The game's still holding steady at a solid 4.6 stars on the store and we're pretty happy with the reviews and feedback we've been getting on there. As someone who also develops for iOS, being able to actually respond to reviews is so incredibly valuable :)

It's a big one:
  • Sharing screenshots via the camera button.
  • Fighter stats gradually decay down to 40, if they're not training in that discipline.
  • Happy fighters train more effectively.
  • Cross training now takes a little longer and only trains the specific Stat for that gym.
  • Your corner gives advice between rounds.
  • The Fighter's info screen now has more complete data. This includes their complete fight history (from this update). Also, the number of times they've failed PED tests or missed weight.
  • Coach negotiations now only allow 2 attempts to recruit them. Also, coaches will never accept a pay cut.
  • Training Dilemmas Changes: Giving your fighter the day off will mean they don’t train this month.
  • Gameplan Techniques are now explained better.
  • On changing Leagues your Fighter's new Rank takes their old Rank into account.
  • The end of the month will now always show your monthly finances and will show any fights booked for the coming month.
  • Miscellaneous fight system improvements.
  • Various bug fixes, including a very rare crash and a small issue where you could get stuck in the Objectives screen.

Update 1.3 is out!

It's mainly focussed on behind the scenes improvements and bug fixes but we've also added Google Play achievements that link up to your Gym Objectives and Interim Titles for when a Champ has vacated a belt (through injury, retiral or suspension).

If you've already completed an objective, it will be awarded the first time you launch the game.
