I have GPS on my 2.2.2 android phone. will GPS work on my phone without an interent connection and data package? is it like an auto GPS where you dont need a subscription?

For the Google Navigation function it needs a Data connection to download maps and directions to the device. I believe there are apps in the market where you can pre-download maps for regions so if there is no data connection then the Navigation function will still work.

Hope this helps.

I have apps called 'latitude' and 'google maps' and one called navigation. I guess navigation is the one your talking about? i know how to use them when connected thru a wifi connection but what map or maps app do i need to download or is it just certain areas i have to download ?

navigator gets it's info from satellites and needs google maps to work (which needs internet). I'm not sure how they work together (I'm a newbie not a techie). I believe wireless locates you're coarse location and the gps finds your exact. But I do know "latitude" is just for tracking your friends (with their permission). Just trying to help.(and I luv my gps navigator!)

I tried andnav when i use it with wifi and data connection turned off, it says cant search google..

I tried zanavi and trekbuddy, osmand. i couldnt get anyone working to use without wifi and data connection. i downloaded the maps and still no go, does not work off the downloaded maps

has anyone got one of them to work? Are there any other free turn by turn gps that actually work without wifi and data turned on?
