Telephone numbers and using names or extentions

I will be switching from a BB to an Android shortly and would like to know how Android phones handle a special situation with telehone numbers.

In my BB I can add a telephone and then use a "!" to indicate a telephone extention and the BB will prompt me to add the extention when I want it dialed. So the telephone number would be

((555) 555-1212 ! 3456
or in some cases I use the portion after the "!" to include someones name (because the husband and wife have 2 different cell numbers I add their names.

Can you tell me how Android phones react to this, what will the display show, will it dial properly, etc?

Thanks for the information, it was helpful.

What happens if someone calls you that you have in your phonebook with the extention information? Does the android recognize the number (person calling may not be calling from an extenstion but the main number)? Does the Android properly identify with the caller ID?
