Long story short, I had to RUU my phone back to stock because everything broke. Thing is, now that it's back up and running... it's not detecting the SIM, the SD card or (!) the USB. This is making it extremely difficult to do anything useful with the phone, let alone flash a custom ROM onto it.

Any ideas? I flashed the most recent worldwide RUU (as my Desire is unbranded) and I've re-done that several times, but it just won't detect anything.

Sounds like a USB Brick. Pop over to the desire forum at xda developers and search for USB Brick. At least it should have info to get the sd working (adb command). Just cant remember right now and have to run off to work.
