When I look for my music I do it on the artist tab and there's about 100 artists that I listen to most of the time but I also have several hundred (about 700 or so) artists who only have a song or two so I would like to clump them all together so if I wanted to listen to them I could just go to "various artist" and play them.

I've tried winamp, doubletwist sync, mediago, changing the names, putting in the same folder, etc but they never group. Any ideas?

Change the Id3 tag of the mp3s. Set artist as various and set album artist as the actual artist. Would be much easier on your computer, try mp3tag, but there are also apps on the market that will edit the tags
