How to disable all sound notifications?

I'm new to Android, hence my question. How do I disable and then enable all sound notifications, say, for the duration of a meeting, in the simplest, most expeditious way? With the phone calls automatically gone to the voicemail?

Just put the phone on vibrate, and all notifications will vibrate, including ur calls.

I guess I'm looking for something as simple as my BB, where I can choose "All Sounds OFF" by tapping on my Sounds icon, and all that comes through is the vibration notifying the incoming calls. Then I can press the on/off button to reject the call and send it directly to voicemail. This option is what I'm looking for in Android.

U can set notifications to complete silence and just have incoming calls vibrate.
