Hello,

I am taking a trip from MI to Toronto Canada in a few days and wanted to know what the data situation is like.

Does anyone know where I could get a prepaid SIM to use on a Canadian carrier that will not break the bank? I just need a little data and voice for the two day trip.

Try at the airport concourse after you get through passport control.

Usually they sell Sim cards, about 30$ At least they do in East Europe.

Fido, Rogers, Bell, Telus offer prepaid SIM cards for something like 40$ (last time I bought them anyway) + activation fees (yeah they're bastards like that lol).

I know Fido the most since I'm using them, they bill by the second unlike the big 3 (Rogers, Bell, Telus) - ie, if you make a phone call for 23 seconds you are billed for 23 seconds and not 1 minute. So they're a good starting point.

They also offer a 10$/100MB data plan, or 25$/500MB plan. Both for a month.

That should cover you.

Any Fido, Rogers, Bell, Telephone Booth, etc store can sell you SIM cards, so you shouldn't have trouble. I'm sure airports have that too. Any shopping mall. Grocery stores have their own MVNO brands too, but I'm not familiar with them.


All in all, it's way easier than getting a SIM in Japan :P
