What is the best way or freeware to convert dvd's to a compatible format to play on Motorola Xoom wifi?

Try Handbrake, it's free and work great.
You might need to play around with configurations for best quality
for your Xoom. I use it extensively to convert movies for my Transformer.

I use DVD Catalyst. It's not free, but for $10, it was worth it because it's pretty much no-brainer. I'm not even slightly technical - I'm sure Handbrake is easy but I couldn't figure it out even using the guide. I'm a hopelessly perpetual noob. I like DVD Catalyst because it has the presets for your device and then you can tweak as you like if you understand what you're doing. The $10 is lifetime.

you may want leawo dvd ripper, which converter dvd to various format you want. it is effective and cheap,you can have a try.

I have tried a of Leawo through which you can easily convert the dvd to motorola xoom compatible formats like H.263, H.264, MP3, MPEG-4, ACC+ Enhanced, OGG.The operation is very easy .

Handbrake works great for me and my Xoom. You should try Handbrake first, since it is free, and see what you think.
