I have recently switched from AT&T to Verizon, is there any app for Galaxy Nexus (ICS) that will run in the background and watch the coverage and keep track it of it (preferably including GPS location) so I can check how well the service is in the areas where I mostly travel?

Try Sensorly: [Only registered users can view links. ] they have an app in the market that crowd sources network coverage. I used it for a while and it had some neat features.

Hope this helps.

I tried "Network Signal Info" which is focused on exactly what I wanted, but turns out there is a bug on Samsung devices that does not allow accurate reading to be logged.
My signal was always -90 and suddenly it jumps to +85, even though there is no change to the bars display on top of ICS.

I will try yours.
Thanks for responding.

-90 to -85 may not be enough to register a change in the bars. Remember signal strength is a negative number, the "smaller" the number the better your signal is.

There is no standard to correlate signal signal strength to how many bars are displayed, that's up to the developers. There have been several instances where people have complained about coverage and the manufacturer rolled out a "fix" that just changed the threshold for the display.

Bars mean nothing, signal strength readings are what matter. Anything between -99 and -70 should be good for calls.

I know, thanks. But the problem is that it actually shows +85 down to -90 or -85
Network Signal Info also states that
Quote:
On some devices (eg samsung galaxy sII, etc..) there is a positive dbm-value from 85.
This value is incorrect.
Error is generated by the modified firmware of the mobile phone manufacturer.
And that's true, I am now showing +85! So Network Signal Info is useless for me. I see like 1 or 2 bars, yet it is showing me this huge number, all green.. Anyway. I also tried Sensorly, and it is a weird app, keeps turning on my Wifi, and claims "No 4G". It also does not have logging capability which is what I need, so I can tell if VZ works in my area by looking at the log at night. Sensorly maps are only covering the highways and roads, not the house areas. Although they are right on the money with ATT having only 2G on my street! (Sometimes 3G.. 5 Bars to 1 Bars variance within steps)
