I have a Galaxy 8.9 and I have about 270 songs loaded on it. Is it possible to move them to Dropbox and still play them through a music player?

Yes you can. It will not free up any space though. Dropbox will download the songs again to your device and put them on your SD card. On the bright side, it will also be easier to update music by loading it into Dropbox on your PC and then downloading it to the phone.
