Hi guys. I came from crackberry.com forums, and I just recently switched from a BlackBerry to Android (Galaxy Note). I'm from Toronto, Canada and my carrier is Telus.

I'm still learning and getting the hang of the Android OS but the one thing I can't seem to figure out is USB storage. It says that my phone should have 16GB of space to install apps/games, etc... Also, anyone know how I can update the OS? (especially when Ice Cream Sandwich comes out)

I can't seem to figure out how to access the USB storage that has about 11GB available. All my apps/games are installing on the 2GB system storage, and I don't want all of it to stay there. How to move it?

I currently don't have a SD card yet, but is there a way to move the apps/games to the available USB storage?

Thanks for the help guys! Welcome me to Android!

On your Home screen press Menu button and then Settings. Go into Manage Applications and from there access each individual app. You should see a button on the right that should say "Move to SD". Press it and your app will be transferred. If it is grayed out you can not move that app unless you root your phone and even then you still may not be able to.

Note that not every app can be transferred or should be transferred. If you are using a Widget, that has to be on the phones internal memory along with the keyboard. Other apps may not always work correctly when transferred to the SD Card.

You can also download something like App 2 SD or DroidSail which will allow you to transfer the apps more easily.

I do see the "Move to SD" option but that moves it to the SD card, not to the USB storage portion. Is that only for pics/videos/music?

You can't use the internal storage for Apps, but you can use it for pictures, musc and other things. Apps will also use it for storage of State data and temporary files as well. As Doc mentioned, once you get an SD card you can move some of your apps to the SD card if your System space is getting full.

I know it's a pain. I have 8gig on my DInc that is hardly used.

While you're here there are a few threads that you will want to check out to ease your transition into the world of Android:

Thank you so much! Very helpful and relieves a lot of my stress.

The reason I'm asking about it because I see other Android devices being able to move their apps to the USB storage... I guess it's device specific only?

Also, my phone sometimes doesn't have data capability when on a call... It's on and off, but usually I cannot go do anything while on a call. My BlackBerry was able to do both things simultaneously, so it definitely isn't the carrier (not CDMA either).

GSM should have no problem doing voice and data at the same time - it's CDMA that has that problem. That's weird - you may want to check here and see if others are having the same problem

I think the devices that can move to internal are devices that don't have SD cards.

Happy Androiding!
