Transfer wifi settings to new phone?
I am upgrading to a new phone soon. Is there a way to transfer my wifi passwords and settings to my new phone without root? I have read that Titanium Backup will do it, but I have to be rooted for that, right?

Re: Transfer wifi settings to new phone?
According to the things I've seen, WiFi networks / passwords / settings are SUPPOSED to be saved as part of your Google profile (in the default / first Google account you configure on your phone). So, as long as that's also the first Google account you configure on the new phone, it's supposed to bring the information back.
In practice, I believe I have only seen this work when you reset your phone to factory defaults and keep it in use. And, even then it's "iffy". - 03-21-2012, 08:59 AM #3
Re: Transfer wifi settings to new phone?
Android 2.2 and higher have the option to backup apps and settings, including WiFi connections, to Google. Look in Settings -> Privacy for the Backup options if you phone has them.
Astro File manager will also backup apps, but it does not look like it will backup WiFi data.
Titanium will backup WiFi but you are correct, it requires Root.
I did a quick Play Store search and did not see anything pop out, but you might want to look a little deeper.
Hope this helps. Some say that his dormant chips were left that way for YOUR SAFETY... Others say that once "turned on," he can not be turned off... All we know is... He's called The Stig. - 03-21-2012, 09:19 AM

Thanks folks. I have a 2.2 device, but don't have a "privacy" tab in settings. I have the HTC Aria, so I'm not surprised it doesn't have the full functionality.

Re: Transfer wifi settings to new phone?
I was just searching if there was any discussion about something I found out with my new phone and found this discussion.
So apparently there is something to the wifi settings being backed up on Google, because I just noticed all the wifi settings and passwords from my G2 (Gingerbread and full-size SIM) appear on my new One S (ICS and micro-sim). So it does work with some phones at least, just don't ask me how because I don't know what I have checked off that made it that way.
