Need calendar event sounds without GMail sounds
I have a Droid Bionic. I like it. But I was recently having some GMail syncing issues and during the troubleshooting for that I uninstalled the latest GMail update and reinstalled it. As a result, GMail is now doing audible notificatrion sounds for new email when before I only had notification in t he notification bar. I can't seem to get it turned off. I still want calendar events and texts to sound so I don't want to silence the phone but I want email and GMail to be silent (Notification icon only). I can't seem to set this up like I had it before. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

Re: Need calendar event sounds without GMail sounds
Seems to me I remember one of the notification sounds listed as being called "Silent" and that's how it was done. Anyone?

Re: Need calendar event sounds without GMail sounds
In both the Gmail and email apps if you look in settings under your account there are notification options. One of the options is to select the ringtone for notification. Silent is an option and should allow you to still see the notification, but it won't "chime."
Hope this helps. Some say that his dormant chips were left that way for YOUR SAFETY... Others say that once "turned on," he can not be turned off... All we know is... He's called The Stig. - 04-29-2012, 05:13 PM

I don't have those options...I have notification in the status bar set but it still chimes. There's nowhere in GMail to set a ringtone.

You have to go deeper into the notifications settings for each Inbox...that's where it is.

In the Gmail app hit Menu -> Settings -> Your Email Address -> Ringtone & Vibrate Select Silent for the ringtone.
In the Stock Email app hit Menu -> Settings -> Your Email address -> Scroll down to Choose Ringtone and select Silent. Some say that his dormant chips were left that way for YOUR SAFETY... Others say that once "turned on," he can not be turned off... All we know is... He's called The Stig.
