Default Transfering music to SD Card

I'm getting my new lg mytouch in a couple days and i'd like to have some music to listen to. I know how to create folders, etc., but i have a question. In all the guides i looked up, people said to use a usb cable and "mount" the device, then transfer the music. My computer has a microSD card slot built in, so I can put the memory card right in the computer and transfer files to it. Will this work to listen to music?

Unless you travel all the time for work and don't always have an Internet connection, or you want to transfer huge numbers of files in a hurry.

Thanks. I could have done it with a cable but I just figured this would probably be more convenient, and I didn't want to accidentally screw something up.
