newbie questions - Google Nexus GSM

I apologize upfront if this is a duplicate post.

I have converted from yakjuux to yakju

Google has updated my phone to Jelly Bean

Do I/Should I wipe my phone and install only Jelly Bean, like I would to my iPhone when there is a major update?

If so how would I root/wipe my phone so that I have no OS and install only Jelly Bean?

Its not a must that you have to wipe the phone before you apply a update from google(previous version to new version).. but starting fresh is always good and will have less issues.. since you wipe clean the phone it always good to install from scratch

If you want to fresh install from scratch go here and dnload factory image for yakju https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

extract the file and place all(bootloader-maguro-primelc03,image-yakju-jro03c,radio-maguro-i9250xxlf1) files in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools\" from your link above. or wherever you installed sdk.

open command prompt like when you ran "fastboot oem unlock" I think step 4 and 5 in your link.

now here is the instruction from flash-all.sh file in the extracted factory image.

if you open flash-all.sh(file in the factory image you downloaded from my link) with word doc you should see this below. I removed "sleep 5"

fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-maguro-primelc03.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-maguro-i9250xxlf1.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot -w update image-yakju-jro03c.zip

run each line one by one... after all is done.. you have restored factory image...

Continue part 2- How to root?

Now to root it download clockwordmod from here ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries
look for "Google Galaxy Nexus (GSM)" recovery or touch recovery.
place it in the same folder "c:\programfiles...........\sdk..."
in the same command prompt run "fastboot flash recovery [downloaded clockworkmod filename].img"

replace the filename of clockworkmod above...

Download root from here Superuser
ARM devices (2.0 – 4.1)
3.1.3

place the superuser file in the phones sdcard

after that go to clockworkmod recovery in phone and install file from sdcard-->[go to location of file]-->Install and click yes.

you are done. rooted.
