Timer won't shut off

I've found that the stock clock/timer app alarm on my LG Eclipse running ICS 4.0.4 won't shut off if I leave the main app screen to go do something else on the phone while it ticks away in the background. The only way to get the alarm to stop seems to be to reboot the phone.
If I leave the timer ticking in the foreground it shuts off normallyt when the acknowledge "ok" is pressed.
Is this normal?
I tried contacting LG about it, but haven't heard anything back.

It works fine for me. when on the app or when it goes background.

there is an option in alarm settings to auto silence it after a period of time.

open alarm-->menu-->Settings-->Auto Silence.

I don't have that setting.
There's a setting in alarm for "side button" behavior that doesn't appear to affect the timer.
"Flip to stop" doesn't appear to work for the timer, either.
Just got an incremental update from LG via AT&T, and if the phone doesn't get locked, the timer shutoff works.
After clearing the app data, it now seems to work, even when locked!
Ignorance is an opportunity for a learning experience.....
