So, I just got the S3 three weeks ago (after switching from iphone, never going back), and I have one week left to return it to AT&T. Should I consider doing so to get the Nexus 4? Or am I better off where I am? Any reason to believe that I'd be better off spending the next 2 years with the Nexus?

it all depends on how much you spend on the contract. and how much you paid upfront. nexus 4 is an amazing device.

S3 is a good device too. pure android with regular updates or S3 with additional features.
