So only 8% of the battery has been used in a little over 5 hours. I have only been texting and have had my phone on standby. Is this good? About what is average battery life for an android phone running 2.3.6?

Battery life will vary wildly for different phones, with different cpus, screen sizes, android versions, manufacturer customizations, and apps installed. That said, 8% in five ours blows my battery life completely out of the water. I can browse the web for 30 minutes on 3g, and be down to 83% from a full charge. What you've got is great.

A phone with only 2.3.6 Android using that little power is good. Don't worry about that. :P
