Galaxy S2 OS Upgrade

I have a 2.8 version of android ( it's the middle ages I know).
So I wanted to update my phone OS; I checked for updates. What's weird is that it tells me that there is no Updates o.O .
What to do ?

try checking for update via Samsung Kies. google search Kies download. its an app.

I have Android version 4.0.4 on Samsung Galaxy S2, which I just updated about two weeks ago. Now having a problem with the system shutting down periodically, sometimes in the middle of a call or app, sometimes when it's idle. Part of the time I don't even know until I hear its start up jingle. Anyone else having similar problem?
