So I ended up breaking down and getting an HTC Hero last night and like alright so far. This thing has a lot of potential. The only problem is that everytime I try to download apps from the market (i.e. pandora) it says that it will start the download. Seconds later I get a notification saysing that "the download was unsuccessful, Please try again later".

I've done some searching and it appears a common fix to the download issues are simply logging into google talk. I've tried to launch the talk app and it doesn't appear to do anything.

I've even trying power cycling the phone.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I'm running the Android 2.1 that came with the phone.

Received this solution on a forum:
1. go to your settings
2. select "applications"
3. then select "manage applications"
4. press menu and select "filter" then "All"
5. scroll down to:
6. "Download Manager" then select "clear data"

My problems started when I upgraded my MicroSD card.
I copied my data to the new microSD card after formatting it in the phone.
I was able to get software installs to work by doing the following:
1. go to your settings
2. select "Privacy"
3. then select "Factory data reset"

I was then able to download my SMS Backup and Restore to get my messages back on the phone.
I entered my Google account to get my contacts, calendar, and email information back on the phone.

I would try the first set and then the second method if the first one does not work.
