It takes more processing power to move graphics around then to just display a static image. Think of it like a videogame....graphics/animation/framerates take more power than just kicking out a picture.

yes it's like playing video all the time but with lesser power usage. not only animation, everything that keeps the phone from truly idling (deep sleep) will drain battery faster.
