Is there a way to setup a account for your kids? If not what do most folks do to let their kids get apps so forth on their device??

You could use your gmail account and have them download them from there.

Not that I personally know of. The only platform that I know allows paternal controls is the kindle fire hd.

Open Google Play, then hit the menu button and then Settings.

Under "User Controls," you can set a password to restrict purchases, and can also filter the apps that can be downloaded.

How old are your kids? If they're pretty young, this is a nice launcher app that can prevent them from accidentally exiting to the home screen from a game, and can also prevent them from making purchases: Kid's Place

This phone will be my kids device for them just wanting some ideas of how I can restrict the device like with parental controls.

Then definitely use Kid's Place, and also enable the password restriction to Google Play as mentioned above.

Yes, that's the correct Kid's Place app (the link was embedded in my previous post). When you install it on the device, you can then launch it and set it up. You'll be asked to pick a PIN for parental control, and then you can select what apps/games to display in the launcher for your kid. There a bunch of other options as well, such as preventing in-app purchases. Once you launch Kid's Place, it will remain active until you exit out of it using your parental PIN, even if you press the power button to put the device to sleep.

You don't really need to create a Google account for your kids. You can control what apps you install for them using your own Google account. Just because you've installed the apps on the kids' device using your Google account doesn't mean they're going to show up automatically on your own phone.

Hmm ok thanks for all the feed back I will get that a try and I did go ahead and created a account for her just in case.

It depends on the "kid". Most kids over the age of 12 know a lot more about how to get around these net-nanny apps than their parents do.
