Android 4.2.1 and usb power

I have a USB device connected to a ASUS MeMO pad hd 7 running 4.2.1 and the device receives no power. using an OTG usb cable. any suggestions on how to fix?

That's because the device doesn't output enough power to keep another connected device powered. What device are you trying to connect?
