Help: Hanging out with Google Talk+ ??
Not exactly a newbie here but, I'm friggin' lost on this.
Using a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note ][ (but don't think that matters for this question).
Had this phone for like 6 months, and had a Sprint Nexus S 4G for 2 years before that so, I'm not anywhere close to "new to Android".
None the less, I'm stumped.
When I'm on my HOME COMPUTER (Windows 7, Firefox browser), and I log into Gmail, I have a little chat thing. It shows me everyone who's online, and lets me chat with them. Also, I can change my own status (Available, Busy, Away, Do Not Disturb, Offline, etc). Just like things were back in the days of AOL and ICQ.
Now, crazily enough, I simply want to do the same thing on my phone (it's nuts, I know).
I have Google+, and it's just like Facebook (not what I want)
I have Google Hangouts, and it's not what I want (I don't want to have a 3-way video chat with my neighbor's cat).
What the heck am I missing here?
This is an Android phone, I have a Google account.
-How do I chat (via text (not SMS..."text", as in typing letters on the keyboard)) to my friends on my phone?
-How do I know when my friends are online and available to chat?
-How do I change my status so that my friends won't bother me when I'm unavailable to chat?
Basically, I'm asking...
- How do I do what I've been doing for 3 years on my computer...on my Android phone?
...and yeah, I used the search and got more confused than when I started.
(for the record, my Palm Pre handled this, at the OS level, FLAWLESSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
