Hi! I have a micro SD card that I have been using for several years now, but my tab suddenly stopped detecting it. I tried inserting it into my phone but it still wasnt detected. I also tried cleaning the pins but nothing happened.
Can I still save this? Its really important to me cos it has a lot of my files in it..

It's a 16GB micro SD card bought from cd-r king btw..

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you insert the card into your computer's SD reader--can the computer detect anything? If not, it's probably dead. If it does detect it, then run chkdsk to scan for bad sectors: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...guide-using-chkdsk-fix-corrupted-sd-card.html

If it's a SanDisk card and it fails twice (any glitch can corrupt a card once), contact them and see if they'll replace it. They're a good company to work with (and the ones who invented the technology).

Ehloweeez, if chkdsk can't fix the card, download PhotoRec, burn it to a CD or DVD, put the card into the computer and restart the computer, letting it boot from the CD or DVD. Then tell PhotoRec to recover the drive the card appears as. Even if the filesystem is messed up so badly that chkdsk can't do anything (like putting a card formatted for Linux into a Windows computer), PhotoRec will find the individual files on the card and recover them.

Hello
Problem: SD card (KINGMAX 8GB) not detected in Cherry Mobile Edge 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
My phone is new, been using it for less than 2 weeks. The card's not, but it works on my Samsung Champ. I've tried cleaning it with cotton swap & alcohol, still not detected.

Does it mean the sd card are dead if even the photo rec cant read about the card?

Welcome to Android Central, and sorry about the late response. Unfortunately, if nothing can read the card, it is probably unrecoverable--sorry! It's possible that some kind of forensic tech specialist could recover data, but that kind of specialist is more likely to work for a crime lab rather than a consumer.

If nothing can read the card, but a PC recognizes that the card was inserted with a card reader, use PhotoRec to recover files. PhotoRec doesn't care if the file structure of the card is destroyed, since it doesn't use the file structure. (It works the same on FAT, ext, NTFS and any other file structure - it looks for things that look like files in the data areas of the card.)

Edit: If the computer recognizes the card and PhotoRec can't recover any files from it, there are no files on it. If the computer doesn't recognize the card, the controller chip is probably shot, and only the manufacturer could possibly recover files from the memory chip.

If a card works on some devices, but not on one phone, it's one of two things - the phone can't read the file structure (Android phones can't read NTFS cards without an additional app) or the card is too large for that phone (a phone that can't read cards larger than 32GB won't just read part of a 64GB card, it just won't read the card).

I had a similar problem when I came back from a long holiday to Brasil with my Transcend 32gb class 6 SDHC card.

I took almost 3000 photos with my camera, but when I got back home and stuck the card in my computers PC slot, nothing happened, it was like there was no card there. I asked friends for advice and they all recommended free recovery software like ZAR or Recova, but these only work if they can recognise the memory card, which in my case it couldn't.

It wouldn't work with an external card reader either, and in the camera it said the disk was damaged or corrupt and couldn't be formatted, I thought I would never see those precious photos again.

I was about to throw the card in the bin when I read about a company called "Recoverfab" in Germany. They got lots of glowing reviews from satisfied customers and having tried everything else I sent an email off to them as a last resort.

I got a very prompt response and I sent my faulty card off to them. Today I received an email from them saying they had managed to recover 98% of my photos. My wife was in tears as we don't get to see her family often.

I would definitely give them a try if you've exhausted every other method to find the photos or data on an undetected, damaged or corrupted memory card.

Hi I have the same problem please help me.

I have a 32 gb SanDisk card and its been with me since 2010. I know its not fake cuz i bought it at a reliable gadget store together with my tab. After a few years i used it in my blackberry phone and recently last march I had a new phone; its samsung galaxy ace lte style. Of course I used my 32 gb card in it cuz I have a lot of files in it. When I inserted it and stuff already, I unmounted it to put in a card reader because I wanted to put some songs. But it says SD CARD CAN'T BE OPENED. ITS OVERWRITE and stuff like that. So i panicked. What I did was I put it back in my phone and just used a usb cord and it worked.

So here's the problem. When I woke up this morning, my phone had a notif saying 'sd card unmounted please insert a new one' and of course i panicked. My sd card was perfectly inserted and I almost cried. I tried various things like getting it out as well as the battery and put my phone at rest. But it still did not work. I tried using a usb cord and connected it at my laptop but my sd card files were not there. I tried using a card reader AND STILL NOT DETECTED. UuugH. Please help meeee. What should I dooo. Some of my files there were not yet saved in my laptop. Please help me.

If the card is still in the same phone the app was moved to from it, the card is probably bad - replace it.

If you moved the card to another phone - the app doesn't get installed to the card, pieces of it get moved. If the app isn't originally installed on the phone, then moved to the card, and the card left in the phone, it won't work.

We have the same problem my sd card is kingston 16 gb sd card which I bought from sd card.. at 1 year of use I was impressed because I never had problems with this unlike transcend which It always reformat. last april after 1 year of use first It was automatically ejected from my phone , the first I do was to reinsert it, then it was readable again but after few minutes it happened again then never came back. until now it is unreadable and everytime I insert it to my computer.. my "my computer" always hangs when I try to open my drive F: , I have tried to find solutions on the net but nothing worked. I guess kingston's sd card have some kind of expiry on it.

Hi,

Same issue, microSDHC 4, 16GB. It stopped being recognized by the phone (Samsung S4), and it is not being recognized by my computer either. Not possible to format it or such. Cleaned pins and made factory reset on cellphone. Maybe it is corrupted by malware, but as it is not recognized by my PC, I cannot run the antivirus on it.

Any solution for this? I searched all I could in Goolge to find an answer and ended here! Thank you in advance for your help
