OS and MicroSD
I have been getting familiar with Android and smart phones for the past year. I didn't realize when I first got mine that one couldn't update the OS as a routine matter and I haven't rooted my phone, an LG Marquee.
Are Nexus phones the only phones that get automatic updates? Should I care that I am running version 2.3.4, which apparently will never get upgraded by the mfg or the carrier?
Second question, I have been looking at new phones like the HTC One, Nexus and Moto X. I want a phone that accepts a microsd card and am amazed that so many of the latest and greatest don't offer that. It would appear that the Samsung Galaxy is going to be my best choice. I have about 60gb of music on my current card. Anyone have any idea why the manufacturers seem to be neglecting this?

Re: OS and MicroSD
Welcome to Android Central!
Well there are several theories as to why more OEMs aren't micro SDs. One of the more popular conspiracy theories is that Google wants you to store your data in the cloud, paying them to access it. That seems like the Google I know. The Sony Xperia Z, ZL, and Z1 are premier phones that also offer microSD expandability. As you mentioned, Samsung is the more popular brand that does as well. The S3, Note 2, S4, and Note 3 are their hot items out now with the S4 and Note 3 being the premier.
I have an S4 and love it. Not only do you get the microSD card expandability, a nice big colorful screen, and a great camera you also get a removable/upgradeable battery. It's been a great phone, for me, and I can recommend it.
