Phone suddenly froze solid. Won't respond. Razr Maxx HD. Please advise.

I was downloading an update to a few apps when my phone suddenly froze totally. Can't turn it off or back on. Completely non responsive. This is my only phone so I am trying to find out how to do a hard reset or something similar.
Wish I knew what to do.

ALL advice is greatly appreciated!

JUst tried but nothing happened. I am thinking that the power and the volume keys must be pushed in simultaneously.
