Go to "settings" in your app drawer, typicaly, the segment at the bottom of the settings applet is called "about phone". This will tell you a bevy of info. Better yet, go to the playstore, and install . Not only will it tell you what version number of Android you have, but it will also give you a whole slew of info.

Major versions of Android are listed with their version names here: Android OS Discussion & Help - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

Welcome to Android Central! As mentioned above, look under Settings>About Phone>Android Version, and you'll see which version your phone has. To see if there is an official update available, go to Settings>About Phone>System Updates.

As for your other question, links will typically appear as blue underlined text in text messages. Are these texts coming from known people, or from some unknown sender? If you don't know the person, it's probably best not to tap the link, since it's probably spam or worse.
