Help With moving contacts TO gmail!

I have a Galaxy s3 and I recently have been saving my contacts to the phone and I just switched it to save to my gmail account(they wont sync over since they were saved directly to the phone). Is there a way to move/link contacts to the gmail account instead of re-typing100 contacts over again and saving them as gmail. Plus I have miles of messages that I need so I can't really delete the contact/have double contacts if you know what I mean. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!

Export Contacts To SD Card--->Import to Gmail

Found what to do on another thread that was like finding a needle in a hay stack. Thanks to bob1174 for helping

Contacts > Menu -> Contacts to display >

Select which ever contacts you want to display (SIM or Phone) and once you are looking just at the contacts you selected (assuming you already setup your Google/gMail account to sync contacts)

Menu > Merge with Google> Google account to merge the contacts with
