Default Google Experience Launcher is killing my battery on LG G2

I installed the Google Now launcher apk after updating to the latest Google Search. Everything works well from the launcher side, but it's absolutely killing my battery. GSM reveals a ton of wakelocks that I didn't have before. This is probably due to the "always listening" google search bar that is at the top of every screen. Anyone else seeing similar issues? I really love the launcher, but will have to uninstall if this continues to be a problem. The G2's normal battery life is unbelievable, so I certainly don't want to lose that.

It's definitely that and the ever-updating location awareness. Not only is your mic always listening, your device is always polling for your current location to let Google Now work its magic. It's always been the two main battery hogs ever since Google Now came out.

I turned off the listening mic. I don't remember off hand where it was. Either settings > language and input or accessibility.

You can still talk by tapping the mic,. It only turns off the ok google cue.
